The Supermicro MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H8TRF is a 3U system designed to handle 8x server nodes. This platform supports a single Intel Xeon processor on each node, plus 4x memory module slots for a total of 32x DIMMs. On the front of the system there are 16x hot-swap 3.5” SATA3 drive bays with 2x assigned to each node.
Designed to provide a cost-effective platform for hyperscale, and hyperconverged cloud workloads, this system is also an excellent platform for web hosting and content delivery. The Supermicro MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H8TRF holds 8x independent server nodes, each supporting a single Intel Xeon E3-1200, Core i3 or Intel Pentium processor. 4x memory module slots provide up to 32GB of DDR3 memory with 2x LFF drive bays, per node. There is access to 1x PCIe 3.0 x8 low-profile add-on card on the back of each of the 8x nodes, as well as their own power button and status LED light.
Intel’s Xeon E3-1200 v2 series, 2nd and 3rd Gen Core i3, and the Pentium family processors are all compatible on the MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H8TRF nodes. Each CPU supports up to 4 cores and 8 threads, with a thermal design power (TDP) of up to 69W, and a maximum turbo frequency of 3.80GHz. Each processor supports 2x memory channels and a PCIe 3.0 bus. The chassis features 4x 8cm fans hidden behind the backplane and a redundant 1620W high-efficiency power supply. Two nodes are connected allowing control of one cooling fan. The components that produce the most heat are effectively cooled by each node's air shroud, which directs airflow from the system fans.
In total there are 32x memory module slots on the Supermicro SuperServer 5037MC-H8TRF divided equally between the 8x server nodes. It can be outfitted with ECC DDR3 Unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMM), providing each node with up to 32GB for a total of 256GB system wide. Compatible memory speeds on this system are 1066MHz or 1333MHz, depending on your choice of processor and memory modules.
The front of the Supermicro MicroCloud 5037MC-H8TRF houses 16x 3.5” drive bays, with 2x drives assigned per node. These storage bays are SATA3 hot-swap HDDs supported by the Intel C204 PCH chipset. There is also 1x SATA DOM. 2x SATA 3.0 connectors per node provide data transfer speeds of 6Gbps with RAID 0, 1. It’s important to note that if a node is pulled out of the chassis, the hard drives associated with that node will power-down.
To accommodate for system expansion, there is 1x PCIe 3.0 x8 low-profile slot for an add-on card on the back of each of the 8x nodes. The nodes on the SuperServer 5037MC-H8TRF also offer 2x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and a single RJ45 dedicated IPMI LAN port for local or remote management. In addition to these rear ports, each node features an Intel 82580DB GbE controller, 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T, RJ45 output, Intel I/OAT 3 support for fast, scalable, and reliable networking, plus VMDq support for better performance of virtualization.
Supermicro’s suite of management software options include IPMI and SuperDoctor 3. IPMI enables server managers to remotely monitor the hardware status of a server, receive an automatic alert in the event of a malfunction, and power cycle an unresponsive system. The 5037MC-H8TRF system also leverages SuperDoctor 3, which displays crucial system information such as CPU temperature, system voltages, and fan status.
The Supermicro MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H8TRF is a 3U server designed with 8x nodes, each supporting 1x Intel CPU, 2x 3.5” SATA drive bays, and 4x DIMMs. Each CPU socket is compatible with Intel’s Xeon E3-1200 v2 series, 2nd and 3rd Gen Core i3, and the Pentium family processors with up to 4 cores and 8 threads. This system is designed for hyperscale in the cloud and for data center implementations.
