Each SuperMicro SuperBlade SBI-7228R-T2F server is a TwinBlade module that features two nodes per chassis and two processors per node. A maximum of ten SBI-7228R-T2F blade server chassis, or twenty nodes, can be installed in a SuperBlade enclosure.
Each SuperMicro SuperBlade SBI-7228R-T2F server supports two distinct compute nodes and is designed for a Supermicro SuperBlade enclosure that can support up to ten blades or 20 nodes. Each node supports dual processors, up to 512GB of memory, and two hard drives. Counting both nodes in the chassis, that’s 4 processors, up to 1TB of memory and four hard drives split between nodes. A maximum of ten blades can be installed in a 7U enclosure, with a standard 42U rack supporting up to six enclosures outfitted with up to 60 twin-blade modules. Power, cooling, management, and networking functions are all handled at the enclosure level.
This TwinBlade module supports two server nodes, each of which support one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors for a total of four processors in each TwinBlade server.
Each node on the SuperMicro SBI-7228R-T2F supports a maximum of two processors and eight memory modules with each processor supporting four registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) modules. Using 64GB DDR4 ECC Load Reduced DIMM modules, the system will support a total of 512GB of memory. Using 32GB Registered DIMM modules the system will support a maximum of 256GB of memory.
Storage is up front and easy to access on this system. Each node supports two 2.5-inch drives for a maximum of four drives total in the chassis. SATA and SAS HDDs and SSDs are supported. With only two drives per node, only RAID 0 or 1 configurations are available. There’s also a dedicated slot on the motherboard for a SATA Disk on Module (DOM) that can be used for additional storage or for the OS. The SuperDOM comes in capacities of 128GB, 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB.
Network communications are handled through the blade enclosure, which supports dual port 10GbE or dual 1GbE.
Management of the system is handled through the enclosures Chassis Management Module which provides access to the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). Administrators can also use the keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) feature to control one or many blade servers.
The SuperMicro SuperBlade SBI-7228R-T2F server blade offers Administrators high density in a compact dual node server blade that’s ideal for datacenters, cloud computing, and enterprise applications.
