The SuperMicro SuperBlade SBI-7228R-T2X server features two dual processor nodes in a single TwinBlade chassis. It's the equivalent of having two servers per blade module. The platform delivers scalable performance for the 7U SuperBlade enclosure and is designed to support enterprise, data center, HPC, and cloud computing with ease.
The SuperMicro SuperBlade SBI-7228R-T2X server offers dual nodes, each with dual processors in a single chassis. Each supporting dual processors and eight DDR4 DIMM sockets per node. Up to ten TwinBlade chassis can be installed in the 7U SuperBlade enclosure. Administrators can mix and match blades, and install different operating systems in the same enclosure.
In total, this TwinBlade server supports four processors in two separate nodes with processors divided equally between the two nodes. Administrators can choose to install either one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4 processors in each node, for a total of four CPUs per TwinBlade chassis. E5-2600 v4 processors support up to 22 cores and memory speeds of up to 2400MHz.
Each node supports two processors, and each processor supports four memory modules for eight modules total in a two processor configuration. With dual processors installed in each node, the chassis will support up to 16 memory modules, either DDR4 Registered (RDIMM) or Load Reduced (LRDIMM) modules.
Each node on the SuperMicro SBI-7228R-T2X supports two 2.5-inch hot swap drive bays for a total of four front-mounted storage devices. Administrators can choose from SATA or SAS SSDs and HDDs with integrated RAID that supports RAID 0 and 1 in each node. There's also a SATA Disk on Motherboard (DOM) with a dedicated slot that can provide additional storage or can be used to support the operating system.
Communications are handled by two embedded 10Gb/s Ethernet chips—one per server node. An Intel i350 dual port 1GbE is also supported. Graphics are handled by an Aspeed AST 2400 Graphics chip embedded in each node.
Management of the system is accomplished with an integrated IPMI 2.0 module with remote KVM functions. The IPMI modules can help manage individual blades, or many blades. At the enclosure level management is provided by redundant Chassis Management Controllers (CMC), which can manage the chassis as a whole or again as individual blades.
The SuperMicro SuperBlade SBI-7228R-T2X server is an excellent choice for enterprise, data centers and cloud applications. It provides a super dense framework in a 42U rack space that is comparable to a traditional 1U setup that would consume more than three times the space at 144U.
