Description

Powering the 4U Supermicro SuperStorage 6049SP-E1CR60 are 2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either the 1st or 2nd generation. As a high-density storage appliance, this single node server is ideal for high-performance computing, government data protection, use as a content repository, and for Telco and Cloud service providers. The server houses up to 60x LFF or SFF hot-swap SATA/SAS drives, plus 2x fixed SATA SSDs, and 2x optional NVMe M.2 cards on the motherboard.
*This system is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2 CPUs, 2 DIMMs, 15 HDDs, and a SAS controller kit.

Performance

Two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either the 1st or 2nd generation are supported on the Supermicro 6049SP-E1CR60. The second-generation CPUs feature 3x UltraPath Interconnects (UPIs) offering transfer speeds of up to 10.4 GT/s. They also offer up to 28 cores each with a maximum TDP of up to 205W. It’s important to note that both CPUs must be installed for full access to the PCIe slots, DIMM slots, and onboard controllers. With 2000W redundant, hot-swap power supplies, if one fails the system can keep working until a replacement PSU is installed.

Memory

16x memory module slots can deliver up to 4TB of 3DS ECC DDR4 memory at full capacity. The SuperStorage 6049SP-E1CR60 supports Registered DIMMs (RDIMM), Load-Reduced DIMMs LRDIMMs and Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory (DCPMM) 200 series memory modules. DCPMMs are only supported using 2nd generation Intel processors and enable the system to support up to 5TB of memory. Depending on the CPU and memory modules installed, memory speeds will range from 2133MHz to 2933MHz.

Storage

The system comes standard with dual Broadcom 3616 controllers (IT Mode) or Broadcom 3108 (H/W RAID) to handle the 60x drive bays driven by SAS/SATA backplanes. These drive bays support both 3.5” or 2.5” drive formats. The single-node model has additional hot-swap storage in the back of the system, including 2x NVMe M.2 slots and 2x internal fixed 2.5" SATA bays, either of which can be used to boot the system in a mirror-mode for redundancy.

Expansion

In addition to the single PCIe 3.0 x8 AOC slot, there are 2x additional PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, all of which support half-height, half-length cards. Similarly, there are 2x PCIe 3.0 x1 M.2 NVMe ports supported by the PCH on the mezzanine board.

Management

Intel Node Manager or Supermicro’s exclusive management software SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) can be used to manage the 6049SP-E1CR60 system. SD5 is a web-based program, that can be used to monitor and detect the server’s CPU temperature, power consumption, fan speed, and more. The system also supports the ASPEED AST2500 Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) to provide remote access to the server. The IPMI 2.0, NMI, SSM, SPM, SUM, and Watchdog provide additional tools to manage the server either at-chassis or remotely.
