Designed for high performance computational tasks such as AI/ML workloads, government data protection, big data, and analytics, the Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-DE1CR90 has 2 server nodes featuring 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Each CPU socket supports 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x DIMM slots on each node. The maximum memory capacity on each server node is 4TB, for up to 8TB on the system at full capacity. There are 90x 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA3/SAS3 drive bays on accessible from the top of the chassis. 3x PCIe Gen4 x16 slots are available on the back of each server node for expansion purposes. 2x 2600W Titanium-level power supply units provide 1+1 redundancy.
The hardware configuration on the Supermicro 640SP-DE1CR90 supports CPUs with a Thermal Design Point (TDP) that ranges between 120W-205W. CPUs included in this TDP range can have up to 36x physical cores and 72x virtual threads. Each of the 2x server nodes on this system support dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
90x 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA3/SAS3 drive bays are accessible from the top of the chassis and includes 4x hot-swappable SAS expanders that connect the drives to the motherboard. Drives 0-44 at the front of the chassis connect to the bottom server node, while the remaining drives 45-89 connect to the top server node. Each node also houses 2x 2.5-inch SATA SSD drive bays along with 2x NVMe M.2 drive slots. Virtual RAID on CPU is also supported for booting the system in UEFI mode.
Compatible memory modules for the Supermicro SuperServer 640SP-DE1CR90 include ECC DDR4 Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) or Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM). Each node houses 16x DIMM slots divided evenly between each CPU socket. When fully configured, the maximum memory capacity for each node is 4TB using 16x 256GB memory modules for up to 8TB on the 4U system. Memory speeds supported on this system include 3200MHz, 2933MHz, and 2666MHz.
System expansion is achieved through 3x PCIe 4.0 x16 low-profile slots available on the rear of each node. 2x 10GbE BaseT ports on each node are supported by the Intel Ethernet controller X550. Additional add-on-cards (AOC) include HBA and hardware RAID options, plus network controller AOCs.
Supermicro provides a suite of software management options which includes their proprietary software. This includes Watch Dog and SuperDoctor 5. Other management software options include the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0, SUM, and NMI. An Out-of-Band license for BIOS management is included with the system.
