The 4U Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-DE2CR60 is a dual node, top-loading storage appliance. It’s designed for Big Data applications, Financial Services, Healthcare Imaging, and Government Data Protection. Dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are compatible with this system. 60x 3.5-inch hot-swap drive bays are split between the two server nodes each of which supports dual CPUs and up to 4TB of memory.
Designed for high performance computational tasks such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning workloads, government data protection, big data, and analytics, the Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-DE2CR60 is a top-loading server with each node holding up to 2x 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Each CPU socket supports 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x DIMM slots on each of the two server nodes. There are 60x 3.5-inch SATA3/SAS3 drive bays accessible from the top of the system. 3x PCIe 4.0 x16 low-profile expansion slots can be found on the rear of this system. 2x 2600W Titanium-level power supply units provide 1+1 redundancy.
There are dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors on each of the two nodes of the Supermicro 640SP-DE2CR60 server. The hardware configuration on this server supports CPUs with a Thermal Design Point (TDP) that ranges between 120W and 205W. CPUs included in this range hold up to 36x physical cores and 72x virtual threads.
60x 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA3/SAS3 drive bays are accessible from the top of the system. 4x hot-swappable SAS expanders connect the drives to the motherboard. Drives 0-29 at the front of the chassis connect to the bottom server node, while the remaining drives 30-59 connect to the top node. There are 2x internal 2.5-inch SATA SSD drive bays along with 2x NVMe M.2 drive slots per node. The system also supports an option for either 2x internal 7mm or 1x 15mm NVMe drive bays. The system can be booted in UEFI mode and Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) is also supported.
Compatible memory modules for this system include DDR4 Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) and Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM). There are 16x DIMM slots per node on this system, evenly divided between each CPU socket. When fully configured, the maximum memory capacity for each node is 4TB using 16x 256GB memory modules for up to 8TB across the whole system. Each node will also support up to 4TB of Intel Optane persistent memory (PMem) series 200 modules. Compatible memory speeds on this platform include 3200MHz, 2933MHz, or 2666MHz.
System expansion is achieved through 3x PCIe Gen4 x16 low-profile slots per node which are accessible from the rear of the server. 2x 10GbE BaseT ethernet ports via the Intel X550 Ethernet controller connect this server with rest of your IT infrastructure. Additional add-on-cards (AOC) include HBA and hardware RAID options, plus network controller AOCs. A dedicated RJ45 LAN port on the back of the system provides access to the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC).
System management is achieved through many different options, among them are Supermicro’s proprietary software. Supermicro options include Watch Dog and SuperDoctor 5. The Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0 is available on this system via a dedicated RJ-45 IPMI LAN port. An Out-of-Band license for BIOS management is included with the system.
