The Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-DE2CR90 is a 4U dual, hot-pluggable node system, housing up to 90x top-loaded drive bays. Designed for tasks such as Government Data Protection, Healthcare Imaging, Big Data applications, and Financial Applications, the Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-DE2CR90 is top-loading, dual node system. Each node houses up to 2x 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with each socket supporting 8x DIMM slots and a maximum of 4TB of memory. A maximum memory capacity of 8TB is available on this system with both nodes at capacity. There are 90x 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA3/SAS3 drive bays accessible from the top of the system, that are fully accessible by both the top primary node and the bottom secondary node. 3x PCIe 4.0 x16 low-profile slots are provided for each of the two server nodes and are accessible from the back of the chassis. 2x 2600W Titanium-level power supply units provide 1+1 redundancy.
For full access to memory and expansion slots, 2x 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported on each node of the Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-DE2CR90. The hardware configuration on this server supports CPUs with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) that ranges between 120W and 205W. This includes CPUs with up to 36x physical cores and 72x virtual threads.
90x 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA3/SAS3 drive bays are accessible from the top of the Supermicro Storage 640SP-DE2CR90 Server. 6x hot-swappable SAS expanders connect the drives to the motherboard. Both the Primary and secondary server nodes can access all drive bays via a center row of 6x expander modules with three assigned to each server node. Each node also supports an internal 2.5-inch SATA SSD drive cage with 2x bays along with 2x NVMe M.2 drive slots on the system board. The Supermicro 640SP-DE2CR90 can be booted in UEFI mode and Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) is also supported.
This system is compatible with DDR4 Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) and Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM). Each node houses 16x DIMM slots, evenly divided between each CPU socket. When fully configured, the maximum memory capacity of each node is 4TB, for up to 8TB system-wide. Compatible memory speeds include 3200MHz, 2933MHz, and 2666MHz.
System expansion is achieved through 3x PCIe Gen4 x16 low-profile slots per node, accessible from the rear of the Supermicro SuperServer 640SP-DE2CR90. Dual RJ-45 10GbE ethernet ports via the Intel Ethernet controller X550 are provided for each server node providing access to the rest of the IT infrastructure. A dedicated RJ45 LAN port on the back of the system provides access to the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC).
System management is achieved through a suite of software options provided by Supermicro and by third-party providers. Supermicro options include Watch Dog and SuperDoctor 5 (SD5). The system is also compatible with the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0 providing access to the integrated baseboard management controller or BMC. An Out-of-Band license for BIOS management is included with the system.
