The Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-E1CR60 is a dual socket system compatible with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This top-loading system offers 60x 3.5" hot-swap SATA3/SAS3 drive bays when the drive bay drawer is pulled out, but also has several storage options on the rear of the chassis and on the motherboard. It is ideal for Telco & Cloud service providers, big data & analytics, as well as government data protection. When fully configured, the server has a maximum memory capacity of up to 4TB.
The 4U Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-E1CR60 platform is equipped with 60x 3.5" bays supporting SATA3/SAS3 drive bays, with 4x dedicated 2.5” NVMe drive bays, and 2x SFF 7mm SATA drive bays on the rear of the chassis. Under the hood, this server also has dual M.2 PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe slots on the motherboard. Compatible with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the system can provide up to 16x memory module slots for regular DIMMs and Intel Optane Persistent memory (PMem) with speeds of up to 3200MHz. The Storage SuperServer is optimized for high-performance computing, financial services, healthcare image archives, and content repositories. The system is powered by dual, redundant 2000W Titanium Level PSUs. *This system is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2x CPU, 2x DIMMs and 15x HDD/SSD storage devices.
The Super X12DSC-6 motherboard supports two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 3rd generation, offering 16x memory module slots with up to 4TB of memory. These CPUs can deliver up to 36 physical cores and 72 virtual threads each, with a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 120-205W, depending on the CPU level installed. Cooling is provided by six heavy-duty, rear-mounted hot-swap fans, that can be changed without shutting the system down.
Pulling out the drive bay drawer on the 640SP-E1CR60 exposes 60x LFF drive bays that can be outfitted with 2.5” or 3.5” hot-swap SAS3 or SATA3 drive types. Two field-serviceable SAS expander modules are included, and are mounted in the second and fourth drive bay rows. On the rear of the chassis, there are 2x 2.5” hot-swap SATA drives on the left and 4x hot-swap NVMe U.2 bays on the right of the back panel for cache support. In addition to these storage options, there are also 2x fixed internal slim SATA SSD slots and 2x PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe M.2 slots, which support M-Key 2280 and 22110. In addition, there are 2x SuperDOM (Disk on Module) that can be used to boot the system.
The Supermicro 640SP-E1CR60 supports the installation of ECC DDR4 Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) or Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs), as well as Intel Optane Persistent Memory (PMem) 200 series memory modules. When all 16x memory module slots are populated with 256GB memory modules, up to 4TB of RAM can be installed. It’s important to note that Intel Optane Persistent Memory modules are only supported by 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the Platinum and Gold levels, as well as select Silver CPUs.
The SuperServer 640SP-E1CR60 offers up to 3x PCIe expansion slots with PCIe 4.0 x16 low-profile form factors. There are two dedicated 10Gbase-T LAN ports on the rear I/O panel plus a dedicated IPMI LAN port via 2x 10GbE BaseT with X550.
This server features a dedicated Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0) offers access to the Baseboard management controller. It provides KVM over LAN, and media over LAN to remotely or locally manage the system. Additional software includes Watch Dog and SuperDoctor5 (SD5), plus ACPI Power Management. A license key (SFT-OOB-LIC) is required for out-of-Band systems management.
Dual third generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors supported on the Supermicro Storage SuperServer 640SP-E1CR60 motherboard provide up to 72 cores 144 threads of processing power. The 4U chassis houses 60x hot-swap drive bays that can be accessed from the top of the device, plus additional drive options to boot the system and provide additional cache. With a variety of storage options, this system is ideal for government data protection, big data and analytics, high-performance computing, AI, and more.
