The Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure 820C family provides dense, multi-blade servers for High-Performance Computing and Enterprise Cloud applications. Up to 20x half-height single- and 2-socket blade servers or up to 10x full-height 4-socket blade servers can populate the 8U chassis. SuperBlade servers compatible with the new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors or 3rd Generation AMD EPYC Series Processors are supported.
Two 10G/1G Ethernet switches can be added as a module on the rear of the enclosure in order to fully integrate within your network. The Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure 820C is also the only family of 8U enclosures that support a single InfiniBand or Omni-Path switch. At 8U, these chassis are the largest of the Supermicro SuperBlade enclosure lineup. Other options include 7U, 6U, and 4U enclosures. A single management module is supported.
The 820C enclosure has three available models: the 820C-822, the 820C-622, and the 820C-422. The Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure 820C-822 model holds 8x 2200W Titanium power supplies, the 820C-622 model has 6x power supplies and 2x cooling fans, while the 820C-422 model holds 4x power supplies. As all systems use the same chassis configuration, slots not populated by PSUs have hot-plug fans instead. Up to 5x enclosures and 100x SuperBlade servers can be hosted in a standard 42U rack.
Power, cooling, Input/Output, and management for the compatible SuperBlades is provided by the enclosure while the compute, storage, and memory are provided by the SuperBlade itself. 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors are limited to a single, dual, or quad setup depending on the Supermicro SuperBlade chosen. Only single socket AMD EPYC powered server blades are supported. When outfitted with Intel CPUs the SuperBlades can support a Thermal Design Point (TDP) of up to 270W. SuperBlades compatible with AMD EPYC processors have their TDP limited to 280W.
Depending on your choice of enclosure model, the number of fans and PSUs vary. The SuperBlade Enclosure 820C-822 holds 8x 2200W Titanium-grade PSUs. Meanwhile the SuperBlade Enclosure 820C-622 model holds 6x 2200W Titanium-grade PSUs and 2x cooling fans in the place of PSUs. Following the naming trend, the SuperBlade Enclosure 820C-422 and 820CB-422 both have 4x 2200W Titanium-grade PSUs, but the difference between the two models being that the 820C-422 has 4x cooling fans in 4x PSU slots, while the 820CB-422 has 3x 1200W BBP in place of 3x PSU slots.
A single slot in the rear of the enclosure supports a single Chassis Management Module (CMM). The CMM is used for remote management and comes with software support. An optional integrated platform management interface mezzanine card can be installed in each of the SuperBlades.
*The single Chassis Management Module (CMM) is not included with the enclosure and must be purchased separately.
Up to 2x 10G/1G Ethernet switches can be installed on this system for redundancy purposes. A single 100G EDR InfiniBand or Omni-Path Architecture switch is also available to install. Associated mezzanine cards must be present in the various Supermicro SuperBlade servers.
*Ethernet Switches are not included with the enclosure and must be purchased separately.
The Supermicro SuperBlade 820C Enclosure is an 8U chassis that can hold up to 20x half-height 2-socket blade serves or up to 10x half-height 4-socket servers. There are four models to choose from which are the Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure 820C-822, 820C-622, 820C-422, 820CB-422. The differences between these models being the ratio of Titanium-grade PSUs and replacement fan modules.
