The versatility that the Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CR25M provides is impressive. The 1U enterprise server is designed for dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either first-generation or second-generation. The 10x 2.5-inch drive bays support SATA natively, but can be configured to support SAS3 or SATA3. The server also has two other storage options by means of a PCIe and M.2 slot on the motherboard.
First and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors on the Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CR25M power up the 24x memory module slots with up to 6TB of memory. The server holds 10x hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system, and two 25GbE SFP28 Ethernet ports on the back of the chassis. This system can only be sold with a minimum of 2 processors, 4 DIMMs, and a storage add-on card.
Under the lid, the Supermicro 1029U-E1CR25M houses Supermicro’s newest generation X11 motherboard with two sockets supporting Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Both Gen1 and Gen2 are compatible with the system, but depending on which generation is used, memory speeds will differ. The CPUs supported have up to 28 cores each and a TDP from 70 to 205W. First-generation CPUs support nonvolatile (NVDIMM) memory modules, while second-generation CPUs support Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Intel Optane data center persistent (DCPMM) memory modules.
As stated in the performance section above, memory speeds will differ depending on which generation of processors is used. Each CPU is assigned 12x memory module slots, for a total of 24x DIMM slots between both processors. The system supports Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules with up to 6TB of memory. Memory speeds can reach up to 2933MHz when using second-generation CPUs, as opposed to 2666MHz with Gen1 processors. The system also supports Intel Optane memory modules, but only when using 2nd generation CPUs.
The 10x 2.5-inch drive bays on the front panel support SATA natively, but can be configured to support SAS3 or SATA3 when using an optional expander or add-on card. Since all drive bays are hot-swappable, they can be removed for easy drive access. The system also has two other storage options by means of two PCIe M.2 cards, or one SATA3 M.2.
Depending on your needs, the server can support several types of expansion cards, but in order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs must be installed. A total of 4x PCIe 3.0 slots are on the motherboard: two of the PCIe slots are reserved for full-height cards, and the other two are for low-profile cards. One of the PCIe slots can be used for a single Nvidia graphics card if needed. Two 25GbE SFP28 ports on the back of the chassis can also be used to provide expansion for network connectivity.
Just like the other platforms in the same Ultra SuperServer family, this system supports Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0), Redfish API, and SuperDoctor5 (SD5), among others. Supermicro’s Redfish solution enables administrators to program simple configuration and maintenance tasks, adds security, and increases productivity. The program monitors system health, memory, storage, fan and voltage sensors, temperature, and power supply.
The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CR25M offers flexibility through its slim 1U form factor. The 10x hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system, which support SATA, SAS3, and SATA3 drives provide storage for any compute-intensive application. The added storage options by means of two PCIe M.2 cards or one SATA3 M.2 are an added bonus. Additionally, with support for first or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 24x DIMM slots with various memory types and up to 6TB of memory, the server can supply performance for any of your demands.
