The dual-socket Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CR4 features 24 DIMM slots, 10x 2.5-inch storage bays that can be configured for SAS or SATA, and support for up to 6TB of memory. The platform is powered by Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either Gen1 or Gen2. This system is part of an Ultra SuperServer family, but the network connectivity on every system is different.
The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CR4 is used for virtualization, data base, big data, and business intelligence, among other things. The flexibility of the 1U server can allow your business to grow as needed. The 10x hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays and 24x memory module slots with up to 6TB of memory are powered by dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The system also offers the best performance with a single Nvidia graphics card for compute-intensive applications.
The Supermicro 1029U-E1CR4 is an Intel Xeon system compatible with first- and second-generation processors. The 2-processor design supports the highest CPU TDP from 70W to 205W with a dual UPI up to 10.4 GT/s. The Gen2 processors support Intel Optane data center persistent memory modules (DCPMM) and nonvolatile (NVDIMM) memory modules using only Gen1 Scalable processors. Memory speed will run at up to 2933MHz using second-generation processors or a maximum of 2666MHz using first-generation processors.
Inside the server, the chassis has six memory channels, for a total of 12x memory slots per CPU, and a total of 24x DIMMs in a two-processor configuration. With all memory slots populated with 256GB, the system will support a maximum of 6TB of memory. The SuperServer 1029U-E1CR4 is compatible with Registered (RDIMM) memory modules or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. The system is also compatible with Intel Optane memory modules, but only when using Gen2 processors. Memory speed is determined by the generation of processors that are used. With second-generation processors, speeds can reach up to 2933MHz, compared to first-generation CPUs with 2666MHz.
The front of the Ultra SuperServer has 10x hot-swap storage bays. Although they support SATA natively, they can also support SAS3 or SATA3 ports via an optional backplane expander or add-on card. For more storage, M.2 drives are also supported by an optional add-on or riser card.
You will find four PCIe Gen3 slots on the Supermicro X11DPU motherboard. There are 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots for full-height cards and 2x PCIe 3.0 x8 slots for low-profile cards. In order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs need to be installed. On the rear of the chassis you will find a selection of ports, as well as 4x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports to maximize performance.
As part of the selection of ports on the back of the Supermicro 1029U-E1CR4, an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) can allow administrators to remotely manage the system, as well as at-chassis control. A variety of programs can manage the system such as SuperDoctor 5.0 (SD5), Redfish API, and Intel’s Node Manager.
With the highest performance and flexibility for enterprise applications, the Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CR4 uses dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors to power the 10x hot-swap drive bays on the front of the system and 24x DIMM slots. With an option for M.2 cards, Intel Optane memory modules, and an Nvidia GPU, this system can increase its potential as your business grows.
