The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP is a high-performance enterprise system. The SuperServer is built around a two-socket motherboard supporting Intel Xeon Scalable processors, which power 10x 2.5-inch drive bays in a slim, 1U form factor. This system is part of an Ultra SuperServer family, but the network connectivity on every system is different.
The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP is 1U in height and features first and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This system is flexible enough to support SATA natively, or be configured for SAS. 24x memory module slots with support for up to 6TB of memory can increase performance for your business.
All servers in this Ultra SuperServer family, including the Supermicro 1029U-E1CRTP, are based on dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The system supports Intel Xeon Scalable processors from Gen1 and Gen2 with a TDP from 70W to 205W. Second-generation processors support Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Intel Optane data center persistent (DCPMM) memory modules, while first-generation supports nonvolatile (NVDIMM) memory modules. Speed is determined by the generation of CPUs used, and this product is sold only as a completely-assembled system with a minimum of 2 processors, 4 DIMMs, and a storage add-on card.
Since the system is used for virtualization and other high performance applications, memory needs to be sufficient. There are 12x memory module slots available per CPU for a total of 24x memory module slots in a two-processor configuration. The SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP supports up to 6TB of DDR4 memory when using Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. When using second-generation processors, speeds reach a maximum of 2933MHz, compared to first-generation CPUs with 2666MHz. The system is also compatible with Intel Optane memory modules, but only when using 2nd generation processors.
The SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP provides space for 10x 2.5-inch drive bays on the front panel. The storage bays are hot-swappable and support SATA natively, but can also be configured to support SAS3 or SATA3 when using an optional expander or add-on card. Additional storage can be provided by two PCIe M.2 cards, or one SATA3 M.2.
There are four PCIe 3.0 slots available inside the chassis. Two of the PCIe slots are reserved for full-height cards, and the other two are for low-profile cards. The system also offers the best performance for compute-intensive applications with a single Nvidia GPU. Both processors must be installed in order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers. The back panel includes a baseboard management controller (BMC) LAN port and two 10G SFP+ Ethernet ports to maximize performance.
The system supports Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) for the host management and monitoring, but there is additional software such as SuperDoctor5 (SD5) and Redfish API. SD5 monitors the hardware health in real-time and also provides administrators with alerts via email.
