The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP2 is an enterprise class server designed for dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 10x 2.5-inch drive bays, and 24x memory module slots. It can also accommodate several types of PCIe expansion devices such as Nvidia GPUs. The network connectivity on this system, compared to the other platforms in the Ultra SuperServer family, supports two 10G SFP+ and two 1 GbE ports.
The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP2 featuring first and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors also supports 10x hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays in a slim, 1U form factor. The system’s flexibility increases performance with support for SATA, SAS, or SATA3. A 750W redundant power supply generates power for the 24x DDR4 DIMM slots with up to 6TB of memory, as well as the PCIe slots with several expansion options!
Inside the Supermicro 1029U-E1CRTP2 we find a dual-socket motherboard supporting Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The system supports CPUs from Gen1 and Gen2 with up to 28 cores each and a TDP from 70W to 205W. First-generation supports nonvolatile (NVDIMM) memory modules while second-generation processors support Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Intel Optane data center persistent (DCPMM) memory modules. Depending on the CPUs used, speeds will differ. This system can only be sold with a minimum of 2 processors, 4 DIMMs, and a storage add-on card.
The SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP2 houses Supermicro’s new generation X11 motherboards. There are 12x memory module slots per CPU, for a total of 24x DIMM slots between both processors. The server is compatible with Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules with up to 6TB of DDR4 memory. As stated in the performance section, depending on the CPU used, speeds will differ between 2933MHz with Gen2 processors, compared to 2666MHz with Gen1 processors. The system is also compatible with Intel Optane memory modules, but only when using Gen2 processors.
Each of the 10x 2.5-inch drive bays on the front panel can be unlocked and removed for easy drive access. The hot-pluggable storage bays support SATA natively, but can also be configured to support SAS3 or SATA3 when using an optional expander or add-on card. If more storage is needed, you have the option of using two PCIe M.2 cards, or one SATA3 M.2.
The system can run several different types of expansion cards, depending on your needs. There are four PCIe Gen3 slots available where two of the PCIe slots are reserved for full-height cards, and the other two are for low-profile cards. For compute-intensive applications, a PCIe slot can be populated with a single Nvidia GPU. In order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs must be installed. On the back of the chassis you can also find a baseboard management controller (BMC) LAN port along with two 10G SFP+ and two 1 GbE ports to maximize performance.
Like the other systems in the Ultra SuperServer family, this system supports Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0), Redfish API, and SuperDoctor5 (SD5). SD5 is a hardware-monitoring program that functions in a command line or web-based interface in Windows or Linux operating systems. The program monitors system health such as CPU temperature, system voltages, system power consumption, and fan speed. If there’s an issue, the program will provide alerts via email or Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-E1CRTP2 is designed for virtualization, cloud computing, and other high-end applications. The slim, 1U server offers flexibility through the 10x hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system, which support SATA, SAS3, and SATA3 drives. With support for Gen1 or Gen2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 24x DIMM slots with up to 6TB of memory, and M.2, the system can be optimized for a growing business.
