The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-TR25M features a 1U height with dual socket Intel Xeon Scalable processors, support for up to 24x memory modules, and dual 25GbE SFP28 ports. The chassis has 10x 2.5-inch drive bays up front and supports SATA drives natively.
Part of Supermicro’s Ultra 1U SuperServer family of servers, the Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-TR25M delivers up to 56 processing cores. The system supports Gen 1 and Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors just like the other systems in the 1029U family. The other systems also support SATA natively, as well as SAS and NVMe. The difference between these systems are the network ports on the back of the chassis. *The system is only sold with a minimum of two processors and four memory modules.
The network supported on this system features dual 25GbE ports, the third generation of the SFP interconnect systems designed for 25G performance. The dual-socket server also supports both first- and second- generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Although first-generation Scalable processors offer less memory capacity and speed, second generation processors support up to 2933MT/s. Each processor supports 12x memory module slots, for a total of 24x DIMMs.
With all 24x DIMM slots populated, the SuperServer 1029U-TR25M supports up to 6TB of DDR4 memory, either Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), or Intel Optane memory modules. Intel Optane memory modules are only compatible with second-generation processors. As mentioned in the performance section above, second-generation processors support a faster memory speed of 2933MT/s as opposed to 2666MT/s with first-generation processors.
A row of 10x 2.5-inch hot-swap storage bays line the front of the 1029U-TR25M with native SATA drives, but the flexible hybrid storage options also allow NVMe and SAS drives with the appropriate add-on card. Two drive bays support NVMe, and the remaining eight bays support SAS drives. Two SuperDOM (Disk on module) headers can be found on the motherboard, which provide solid-state storage capacity and can be used a s a boot drive with redundancy.
The Supermicro 1029U-TR25M supports up to four PCIe 3.0 slots, like the other systems in the Ultra 1029U family, with one slot designated for a Nvidia GPU. The remaining slots support one SATA M.2 via an optional add-on card, as well as two PCIe M.2 cards. The system also features dual 25GbE SFP28 ports, and an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) port on the back of the system to remotely access the management features. In order to have full access to all PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs must be installed.
Aside from the IPMI port, which can be managed at-chassis or remotely, the SuperServer 1029U-TR25M can also be managed with SuperDoctor 5. SD5 monitors the health of the server and can be configured to generate reports and send alerts via email when through the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) if the system fails.
The Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-TR25M is a flexible system that can be outfitted to support a number of different workloads. With up to 24x memory module slots, support for up to 6TB of memory, and a variety of storage options, the system delivers impressive performance for any size business.
