The Supermicro SuperServer 1029UZ-TN20R25M features a 1U chassis with 20x 2.5-inch 7mm drive bays and is part of Supermicro’s Ultra server line. This server supports NVMe natively and is designed for digital transformation, plus applications like video processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The system also has the option to support SAS and SATA storage devices.
Promising the highest performance and flexibility for enterprise applications, the Supermicro SuperServer 1029UZ-TN20R25M features an X11 motherboard. Equipped with dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors it will support 24x DIMMs and up to 6TB of memory. There are 20x NVMe hot-swap 2.5-inch 7mm drive bays up front, but two of these are hybrid ports that can support SAS or SATA storage devices. On the back of the system are two 25GbE SFP28 ports via AOC-URN4-M2TS (Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx EN), a BMC LAN port, a serial port, and a VGA port.
* This platform is sold with a minimum of two CPUs, four DIMMs, and 10NVMe drives.
Intel’s C621 chipset supports two Intel Xeon Scalable processors cooled by eight heavy duty fans with two air shrouds directing air flow. With a TDP of 70-205W, this Ultra SuperServer supports Gen 1 and Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores each. First-generation CPUs can support memory speeds of up to 2666MT/s, while second-generation processors support speeds of up to 2933MT/s. Each processor supports 12x memory module slots, for a total of 24x DIMMs in a two-processor configuration. On the back of the system, you will find two 25GbE SFP28 ports and redundant titanium level 1600W power supply units.
Each processor on the Supermicro 1029UZ-TN20R25M supports 6x memory channels and 12x memory module slots for a total of 24x DIMMs and a maximum of up to 6TB of memory. This system supports Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), and Intel Optane (DCPMM) memory modules, which will all run at speeds of up to 2933MT/s using second-generation processors, or 2666MT/s using first-generation processors. Intel Optane memory modules are also supported but only with 2nd generation Intel SPs installed.
There are 20x hot-swap 2.5-inch 7mm drive bays up front that support NVMe drives natively. The system supports 1 x NVMe SSD PCIe 3.0 x4, plus 1/2 more SATA or NVMe M.2 SSD with additional parts.
2x PCIe 3.0 x8 slots are available, both of which are full-height and full-length. For a configuration of 20x NVMe SSDs, only one PCIe x8 slot is available. For 18x NVMe SSDs, 2x PCIe x8 will be available. In order to have full access to the full memory capacity, PCIe slots, and onboard controllers, both CPUs need to be installed.
The Ultra 1U server is equipped with several management features like Intel Node Manager, IPMI 2.0, SuperDoctor5, and Supermicro Server Manager (SSM). SSM monitors the health of server components including memory, hard drives, and RAID controllers. Administrators can also manage the system’s power usage using the Supermicro Power Manager (SPM) to maximize the CPU payload while avoiding the risk of a tripped circuit. Administrators can also configure the management software to send email alerts if errors are encountered.
Designed for Cloud Computing, Virtualization, Software Defined Storage, and use as a high-density enterprise server, the Supermicro SuperServer 1029UZ-TN20R25M supports up to 20x hot-swap 2.5-inch 7mm drive bays and up to 24x DIMMs with a capacity of up to 6TB of memory. The system’s ability to house NVMe, natively, and the option to support SAS and SATA storage devices lives up to the Supermicro promise of providing the highest performance and flexibility.
