Supermicro excels at creating high-performance 2U systems and the Supermicro SuperServer 2029TP-HC1R is no exception. This platform is also part of the TwinPro family of servers with four individual dual-socket Intel Xeon Scalable processors compatible server nodes each supporting up to 16 DIMM slots. There are 24x front drive bays.
Each of the four compute nodes is hot-pluggable and can support up to 4TB of memory. The front 24x drive bays on the Supermicro SuperServer 2029TP-HC1R are equally allocated to each of the 4x compute nodes. The 2U chassis provides the storage, cooling, and power, while the compute nodes provide the compute, memory, and network connections with a combination of integrated and optional ports.
Each of the four compute nodes support dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or 2nd generations with up to 165W and 28 cores. Implementations with processors with a TDP greater than 165W will require consultation. Memory supported includes Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM), but the last is only available with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
With all memory slots loaded with either 3DS RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules the system can support up to 4TB of memory using “M” suffix 2nd generation SP processors. Only 2nd generation processors will support Optane DCPMM, and only when mixed with LRDIMM and RDIMM memory modules that have been certified for use with DCPMM.
24x drive bays line the front of the system and are equally allocated between the compute nodes. SAS drives are supported on this system using the Broadcom 3108 SAS3 12Gb/s controller, which also offers a full range of RAID options. 2x SuperDOM or Disk on Motherboard for use as a boot drive can be installed in each of the compute nodes using the dedicated ports on the side of the server node. 6x of the 24x drives up front are automatically allocated to each of the four compute nodes.
Additional ports can be installed using the Supermicro I/O Module (SIOM) unit, of which there are several options supporting a variety of connection speeds. The Supermicro 2029T-HC1R has four compute nodes each with an integrated IPMI port for access to the integrated management module.
Management of the system is through the Intelligent Platform Management Interface or IPMI that is built on the ASPEED AST 2500 controller. It offers a hardware health monitor plus remote power on/off. SuperDoctor5 (SD5) offers a graphical interface to monitor system hardware health and availability of system nodes through a feature-rich HTML5 graphical interface using a standard browser.
The TwinPro Supermicro SuperServer 2029TP-HC1R at 2U can support up to 8x processors and up to 16TB of memory. With 4x hot-swap server nodes, each of which support up to 6x storage devices, it can easily scale to support your growing business needs.
