With 24x hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays, the 2U Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CR4T is ideal for digital transformation including storage and security applications, network infrastructure, video processing, artificial intelligence, and general data center virtualization. This system features dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors with 12x memory module slots per processor, for up to 6TB of memory.
This model is part of the Supermicro SuperServer SYS-2029U-E series. The network connection is what sets this system apart from the others, with 4x 10GBase-T LAN ports via the Intel X710 converged network adapter. The system also supports up to 24x drives up front including options using SAS, SATA, NVMe, and M.2 SSDs. The front drives are cooled by 4 heavy duty fans with an air shroud ensuring maximum airflow through the system. *Please note, this system is only sold as a completely-assembled system with 2x CPUs, 4x DIMM modules, and a storage add-on-card.
The dual sockets support Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors, as well as Gen 1. The Intel Xeon 8100/6100/5100/4100/3100 processor series comes in two models: Fabric (Has an “F” suffix)) and non-fabric models, but only the non-fabric model is supported for this system. Gen 1 supports memory speeds of up to 2666MT/s, while Gen 2 processors will run at a top speed of 2933MT/s.
The 24x DIMM slots support up to 6TB of 3DS Load Reduced (3DS LRDIMM), 3DS Registered (3DS RDIMM), or up to 3TB of Load Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules with speeds of up to 2933MHz. The Supermicro 2029U-E1CR4T also supports Non-Volatile (NVDIMM) memory modules and Intel Optane Data Center Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). Intel Optane memory modules are only supported with Gen 2 intel Xeon Scalable processors.
24x 2.5-inch hot-swap storage bays line the front of the system. For SAS drive support, an add-on card is required and will provide support for up to 24x SAS drives. As an alternative you can install up to 20x SAS drives with up to 4x NVMe drives. There’s also an option for 2x SATA 2.5-inch drives in the rear, and 2x internal M.2 solid state drives. *The server can be purchased with or without drives installed.
Up to 2x M.2 solid state drives can be installed on an optional ultra-riser card, with some restrictions. One M.2 socket supports NVMe and the other supports SATA and both are available in several form factors. Up to 7x PCIe slots are available in different variations, but in order to have full access to all PCIe slots both CPUs need to be installed. For SAS drives or for more control over your storage you will need a discrete HD/RAID controller.
The Supermicro 2029U-E1CR4T is supported by several management systems including Intel Node Manager, SuperDoctor 5, and the Intelligent Platform Management interface or IPMI. Most recently, IPMI was the standard for managing computer hardware, but a newer version called Redfish API is now taking over. Redfish provides an intuitive user interface enabling users to program simple configuration and maintenance tasks that, until now, have been extremely complex and time consuming. Redfish adds security, increases productivity, and plays a significant role to enable Supermicro’s next-generation infrastructures.
The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CR4T is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2x CPUs, 4x DIMMS, and a storage add-on card, but for fast computing you’ll want to take advantage of the full memory and storage options. Featuring 24x memory modules and up to 24x SAS drives with NVMe, SATA, and M.2 options, this system is designed for high-performance computing. The network connection sets the system apart from the others, with 4x 10GBase-T LAN ports via Intel X710 to ensure faster network connection speeds.
