The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CRTP is a 2U server supporting dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors in a 2U chassis. With up to 6TB of memory and 24x 25-inch storage bays up front, this system is a great candidate for virtualization, hyperconverged Storage, Cloud Computing, and for use as a high-end enterprise server.
The characteristic which distinguishes this system from the others in the 2029U-E family are the network connection ports. With 2x 10G SFP+ ethernet ports, the server can provide a cost saving optimal performance with lowest latency and lower power usage in the data center. Supporting up to 24x memory module slots and 24x storage drive bays, the SuperServer 2029U-E1CRTP can expand your options as your business needs grow.
2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores and a TDP of 70-205W are supported on this system. Both 1st and 2nd generation processors are supported. Inside the chassis, the layout allows for easy access to components for upgrade or replacement. Four heavy duty fans and an air shroud direct air flow through the chassis helping to maintain consistent operational temperatures.
Under the cover, there are 24x memory module slots with each processor controlling 12x memory slots with two memory modules in each of the six memory channels. Memory speeds include 2133MHz, 2400MHz, 2666MHz, and 2933MHz, but must be paired with an appropriate processor. With all memory modules loaded, the system can support up to 6TB. Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM) are only supported using 2nd generation Intel Xeon processors. Conversely, Non-Volatile (NVDIMM) memory modules are only supported using 1st Generation intel Xeon Scalable processors.
The Supermicro 2029U-E1CRTP offers several storage options that include support for SATA, SAS, and NVMe formats. The 2029U-E1CRTP supports 24x 2.5-inch hot-swap SATA storage drives natively. If you want the option to use 24x SAS drives you will need an optional PCIe add-on card. You can also take advantage of 4x hybrid bays that support NVMe for greater data resiliency. For more storage, an optional drive cage mounted in the rear of the chassis supports 2x SATA 2.5-inch drives. An optional M.2 add on card supports two solid state drives, including 1x SATA and 1x NVMe drive.
The dual processors support up to 8x PCIe slots as well as 2x M.2 solid state drives that can be installed on the optional ultra-riser card. One M.2 socket supports PCIe and the other supports SATA. In order to have full access to all PCIe slots, both CPUs must be installed. Support for SAS and NVMe drives will require an optional HD/RAID controller.
The SuperServer 2029U-E1CRTP provides capabilities to monitor the health of the server’s components through SuperDoctor 5. This program remotely monitors the system’s health information like system power consumption, CPU temperature, and fan speed. If something is wrong, it’ll immediately send alerts via email or Simple Network Management Protocol. Other management tools include Intel Node Manager, Redfish, and IPMI.
Equipped with 24x hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays, the SuperServer 2029U-E1CRTP can be used as a storage server for a converged infrastructure. With support for 6TB of memory and Dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors the system is also a great choice for use in High-Performance Computing (HPC). It offers several different storage options including SAS, SATA, NVMe and M.2 giving you the flexibility to support just about any workload.
