The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV server features dual second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and up to 24 DIMM slots. The 2029U-MTNRV is a 2U short-depth rackmount server with a row of drive bays along the top and a row of hot-swappable fan modules below.
Optimized for 5G Core and Edge, cloud computing, virtualization and more, the SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV supports a better cooling solution due to the design of the front panel and the short depth. It offers support for up to 8x PCIe add on cards, including FPGAs, high performance GPUs and computational accelerators. * This system is only available as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2x CPUs, 4x DIMM modules, plus 1x NIC adapter card. Additional options can be added at time of purchase.
The 2029U-MTNRV server features dual Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs on the latest X11 motherboard, and supports processors from either the 1st or 2nd generation. Memory speed is dependent on which generation is used with the 2nd generation supporting memory speeds of up to 2933MHz. Each CPU supports up to 28 cores, a TDP from 70 to 205W, and a dual UPI delivering up to 10.4GT/s. The system is powered by redundant 1600W titanium-level PSUs. There are four GPU power connectors and four backplane power connectors.
6x memory channels per CPU, and twelve module slots per CPU, provide a total of 24x active memory module slots with both processors. The SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV server supports up to 6TB of 3DS Load Reduced (3DS LRDIMM), 3DS Registered (3DS RDIMM), or Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent memory modules (DCPMM). DCPMM offers data persistence with higher capacities than traditional memory modules plus lower latency than NVMe SSDs. DCPMMs are only supported by 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Using Load Registered (LRDIMM) memory modules, the server will support up to 3TB of memory.
The SuperServer has 6x hot-swap 2.5-inch hybrid drive bays in a row along the top, front of the chassis above a row of 6x heavy duty fan modules. Although it supports SATA drives by default, SAS3, NVMe U.2 or M.2 PCIe NVMe drives can be installed with optional parts. The short depth of the chassis and the reduced storage open the front of the system to significantly better cooling in support of high-performance expansion options.
The chassis supports 8x PCI-Express slots, four of which are compatible with NVMe, including a x16 slot and seven x8 slots. In order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs need to be installed. On the back of the chassis, there is one IPMI dedicated RJ45 type LAN port supported by the onboard AST2500 bae management controller (BMC).
To manage the Supermicro 2029U-MTNRV server, there are several options available. The X11 motherboard has an onboard Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) chip, which supports the Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) to oversee system health monitoring. IPMI is used to provide remote access, monitoring, and management. Other management programs include Redfish API, SuperDoctor 5, and Intel Node Manager.
Powered by dual Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV is a short-depth 2U server made to deliver professional computational power with superior cooling. Optimized for a wide range of workloads in 5G and telecommunications applications, the server offers faster performance and optional NEBS Level 3 certification. With 24x DIMMs and up to 6TB of memory, the system supports the latest technologies to handle the most demanding applications.
