This is a high-end enterprise server designed for Hyperconverged Storage, Cloud Computing and extreme virtualization. The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TR4 can support up to a full 6TB of memory, including Intel Optane, with support from dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either the 1st or 2nd generation. There are 24 front storage bays up front with an option for two more in back. This system comes with a minimum of 2x CPUs and 4x DIMM modules.
The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TR4 platform is sold as a complete system with a minimal configuration supporting dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors and 4x DIMM modules. However, the system can be outfitted with up to 6TB of memory using the appropriate processors and memory modules. There are 24 storage bays in front and two optional bays in back.
Both 1st and 2nd generation intel Xeon Scalable processors up to 28 cores each are supported on this system. Each processor supports six memory channels and six memory module slots, for 24 total memory module slots in a two-processor configuration. To achieve the full 6TB of memory will require 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with an “L” suffix as they can support up to 4.5TB of memory, each. This one in particular features four 1GbE ports via the Intel i350.
Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Intel Optane memory modules, also known as Data Center Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). However, Optane memory modules are only supported using 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Gen 1 processors support memory speeds of up to 2666MHz, while the Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors support memory speeds of up to 2933MHz. Memory capacities and memory speeds are dependent on both the processor and memory module, defaulting to the slowest performer between the two.
24x 2.5-inch storage bays on the front of Supermicro 2029U-TR4 support SATA, SAS SSDs or HDDs or up to 4x NVMe SAS3 drives paired with up to 20 SAS3 drives. Two more 2.5-inch drives can be installed in an optional rear drive cage. Optional riser cards can be used to provide either single or dual M.2 NVMe drives.
With support for up to 8x expansion slots you have options for additional network cards, storage controllers, and additional storage either from a single or dual M.2 PCIe storage card. You can also install some powerful GPUs from Nvidia including the P5000 and P6000.
An Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) Base Management Controller (BMC) provides out of band access to the system with a dedicated management port on the back of the system. Redfish API delivers simple and secure management for converged, hybrid IT, and Software-Defined Data Center implementations and allows you to automate simple configuration and management tasks. Another management feature is Supermicro’s SuperDoctor 5, which works with either a Windows or Linux based operating system to monitor health status.
The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TR4 has all the high-performance features to support your growing business. Fully outfitted it can support an impressive 6TB of memory and up to 26x storage devices. A minimal configuration includes two CPUs and four DIMM modules.
