Like the other models in the SuperServer lineup the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TR4T is designed for virtualization, hyperconverged storage, cloud computing, and for use as a high-end enterprise server. While it supports up to 6TB of memory, this system comes with a minimum of two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the Gen 1 or Gen 2 families, and four DDR4 DIMM modules.
With Intel’s Gen 2 Scalable processors and support for up to 6TB of memory the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TR4T is a highly adaptable platform for use in a variety of high-performance computing applications. A minimal configuration on this chassis includes two processors and four DIMM modules.
Both Intel’s first and second-generation Xeon Scalable Processors are supported on this chassis with the second generation supporting the most memory, with faster memory modules, and a slightly faster clock speed. Power is provided by a 1000W PSU with an adjacent slot for a redundant PSU.
The Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs support 6 memory channels, and 12 memory module slots, per processor for a total of 24 active memory slots in a two-processor configuration. Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM modules are supported with both Gen 1 and Gen 2 intel Xeon Scalable processors. 3DS memory modules will provide the highest capacity at up to 6TB. Gen 2 Xeon Scalable processors will also support Intel Optane data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM).
12x 3.5-inch hot-swap bays up front can be outfitted with all SAS III drives or with up to 4x SAS III or NVMe drives using an optional hybrid backplane. Two more 2.5-inch drive cages are located at the rear of the chassis for one or two 2.5-inch hot-swap drives. There are also two SuperDOM (Disk on Module) ports, which are SATA3 Flash memory modules that can support an OS or hypervisor. Additional M.2 drives can also be installed on this system using specific risers and PCIe cards.
The Supermicro 2029U-TR4T supports up to seven PCIe 3.0 slots including two x16 slots plus five x8 memory module slots. You can also install a maximum of two high-performance GPUs from Nvidia including, Grid, Tesla and Quadro models. Four RJ45 10Gb ethernet ports on the backside for fast network connection speeds plus another port dedicated to the base management controller (BMC). Additional network cards with speeds of up to 40Gb/s are also supported.
The dedicated BMC LAN connection on the back of the system provides Administrators with both at chassis and remote management options using Redfish API. Redfish enables users to program basic configurations and simplifies management of system resources increasing productivity.
Offering support for up to 6TB of memory, 26 storage devices, a maximum of two performance GPUs from Nvidia, plus M.2 storage, and four integrated 10GbE ports, the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TR4T is designed to address high-performance computing applications with ease. Highly expandable and adaptable this platform is ideal for applications in virtualization, hyperconverged storage, cloud computing, and machine learning.
