The Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-E1CR25M features dual-socket support for first- and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors like Cascade Lake and Skylake. The system supports the X11 motherboard, the newest of its kind. Under the hood, there are 24x memory module slots with support for Load Reduced (LRDIMM), Registered (RDIMM), Non-Volatile (NV-DIMM), or Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory (DCPMM). The 12x storage bays on the front of the system are 3.5-inch hot-swap bays with SATA3 ports by default, but can be configured for SAS3 and NVMe.
The 12x storage bays on the Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-E1CR25M can take on any high-compute applications with support for SATA, SAS, or NVMe. The Cascade Lake or Skylake processors from Gen1 and Gen2 support up to 28 cores each and memory speeds up to 2933 MHz. The 2U server holds 24x DDR4 memory module slots with up to 6TB of memory. This system can only be sold with a minimum of 2 processors and 4 DIMMs.
With the newest motherboard generation, the system supports dual sockets with support for Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs from either the 1st or 2nd generation. The processors support up to 28 cores and a TDP from 70W to 205W. Up to 2666MHz can be reached when using Gen1 processors, but can be surpassed with up to 2933MHz when using Gen2 processors. A 1000W redundant power supply with PMBus supports the 80+ titanium level certification. Cooling is provided by 4x heavy duty fans.
To achieve faster performance, each CPU supports six memory channels with two memory modules per channel, for a total of 24x memory modules between both processors. The system supports memory speeds of up to 2933 MHz, depending on the CPU, memory type, and memory configuration. The 24x DIMMs support up to 6TB of memory. The system supports Load Reduced (LRDIMM), Registered (RDIMM), Non-Volatile (NV-DIMM), or Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory (DCPMM).
The system is a highly adaptable and flexible platform, supporting 12x hot-swap 3.5-inch drive bays with SATA ports by default. The storage bays can also be configured with 8x SAS3 and 4x NVMe/SAS3. The motherboard supports two optional M.2 storage devices that can be used for additional storage or for fast boot-up.
There are a maximum of 8x PCIe 3.0 expansion slots on the 6029U-E1CR25M server. In order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both processors must be installed. The system also features 2x 25GbE SFP28 Ethernet ports and one RJ45 dedicated IPMI LAN port on the back of the system. For virtualization and high-computing performance, the system will also support up to two GPUs.
Management of the X11 servers can be achieved using several different programs. Intel Node Manager, Supermicro Server Manager (SSM), Supermicro Power Manager (SPM), SuperDoctor 5, and IPMI 2.0 are some software programs that can manage the system. IPMI provides remote access, monitoring and management through the baseboard management controller (BMC) found on the back of the system.
The 2U Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-E1CR25M can deliver impressive performance through its many flexible options. With Intel’s Xeon Scalable processors, memory speeds can reach up to 2933 MHz, depending on the CPU, memory type, and memory configuration. This server can take on any workload with its option for SAS, NVMe, M.2, and Intel Optane DIMMs.
