With the most recent Supermicro X11 motherboard, the Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-E1CR4 is ideal and customizable for your digital transformation applications including storage and security appliances, video processing, in-memory analytics, artificial intelligence and data center virtualization. The enterprise server holds dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 12x 3.5-inch drive bays, and 24x memory module slots.
As part of the Ultra SuperServer family, the Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-E1CR4 features 4x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. The system is compatible with first and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with support for SATA, NVMe, or SAS3. The chassis supports 12x hot-swappable 3.5-inch storage bays in a 2U form factor, as well as 24x DDR4 DIMM slots with up to 6TB of memory.
Under the hood of the Supermicro 6029U-E1CR4 we can find a dual-socket X11 generation motherboard supporting Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The system supports Gen1 and Gen2 processors with up to 28 cores each and a TDP from 70W to 205W. First-generation CPUs support nonvolatile (NVDIMM) memory modules while second-generation processors support Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Intel Optane data center persistent (DCPMM) memory modules. Speeds will differ depending on the processor that is used.
*This system can only be sold with a minimum of 2 processors, 4 DIMMs, and a storage add-on card.
Supermicro’s new X11 servers are built for maximum performance, which means you can also have more memory channels. The SuperServer 6029U-E1CR4 has 12x memory module slots per processor, for a total of 24x DIMM slots between both CPUs. As stated above in the performance section, the server supports Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules with up to 6TB of DDR4 memory. Speeds will differ between 2933MHz with 2nd generation processors, compared to 2666MHz with 1st generation processors. The system is also compatible with Intel Optane memory modules, but only when using Gen2 processors.
All 12x 3.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system are hot-swappable. The storage bays can support SATA, NVMe, or SAS3 with an optional add-on card. If more storage is needed, the chassis also offers support for up to two M.2 solid state drives with a riser card. One socket supports PCIe and the other supports SATA. Several SSD lengths are compatible and a specialized air shroud is available for cooling the M.2 SSD.
Depending on the applications needed, the system can run several different types of expansion cards. There are 8x PCIe 3.0 slots available, but both processors must be installed in order to have full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers. In addition to the slots, there are eight 8-pin connectors located on the motherboard to supply power to onboard devices. Power connectors 1-4 are used for GPU devices, while the others are used for backplane devices. On the back of the system, you will also find a dedicated LAN port for IPMI and 4x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports to maximize performance.
Several programs can manage the system, just like the others in the Ultra SuperServer family. The 6029U-E1CR4 supports Intel Node Manager, Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0), SuperDoctor5 (SD5), and Supermicro Server Manager (SSM). SSM monitors the health of the server components including hard drives, RAID controllers, and memory. With a couple of clicks, your IT administrator can manage the power usage across all Supermicro servers to maximize their CPU payload. The program is optimized for Windows or Linux operating systems.
The Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-E1CR4 is a 2U enterprise server with lots of options. Whether you need flexile storage options, more storage space, or memory configurations, this system can do it all. With its 12x hot-swappable 3.5-inch drive bays supporting SATA, NVMe, or SAS3, it can help you achieve any workload. The option for Gen1 or Gen2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors, M.2, or memory choices are another added bonus for a growing business.
