The Supermicro SuperStorage 1029P-NEL32R server provides exceptional performance in a 1U chassis while supporting dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs. With up to 32x Enterprise & Data Center SSD Form Factor (EDSFF) drive bays on the front panel and 24x memory module slots that are compatible with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). This dense system also has the potential to save a ton of power.
Compatible with Intel Xeon Scalable processors with a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 165W, the SuperStorage 1029P-NEL32R will support CPUs with up to 28 cores. Each socket supports first or second-generation CPUs, which enable 12x DIMM slots per socket for a total of 24x DIMMs and up to 6TB of memory. The motherboard on this platform only supports the Non-Fabric model CPUs. Eight hot swap 40 mm fans are installed in front of the CPU and DIMM slots.

With 24x memory module slots and dual processors, the Supermicro 1029P-NEL32R can deliver up to 6TB of 3DS ECC DDR4 memory using a mix of LRDIMMs and DCPMMs at maximum capacity. In comparison to standard dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) modules, DCPMMs delivers data persistence with more capacity at lower latencies and offers hyper-speed storage capability for high performance computing platforms with flexible configuration options. With all memory channels filled and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors mounted onto the server board, the system supports memory speeds of up to 2933MHz.
The front of the 1U chassis holds up to 32x next generation EDSFF drive bays. This new drive type, sometimes known as "Ruler Drives," is making its way into data centers. It is compact and long like a ruler but also consumes less energy and generates less heat and offers better capacities in a small form factor. Assuming the drives are each 15.36 TB, the combined capacity is very nearly half a petabyte. The motherboard also features two PCIe hybrid M.2 slots, which support a range of card sizes, improved functionality, and enhanced space utilization. The 2280 and 22110 form factors of PCIe 3.0 x2 SSD cards are supported by the M.2 socket.
The Super X11DPS-RE motherboard on the Supermicro 1029P-NEL32R server supports 2x pre-installed riser cards each offering a single low-profile 3.0 x16 slot. These slots can be accessed through the rear of the platform. In addition, there are also two Intel X550 10GBase-T LAN ports on the rear, just below the PCIe slots.
To manage the 1029P-NEL32R server, administrators can utilize Supermicro’s management suite to virtually modify settings. SuperDoctor5 (SD5), Watch Dog, SPM, SSM, SUM, NMI, Redfish API, and Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0) are all included in the suite. System health indicators like CPU temperature, system voltages, system power usage, and fan speed are tracked by SD5. It can send alerts by email or the SNM Protocol, and it may be used with a web browser or command-line interface (SNMP).
