Delivering dual-socket performance in a 2U chassis, the Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24H Server has 24x front storage, hot-swap bays and is designed for storage-intensive applications like Corporate Database, database processing and storage, plus iSCSI storage area network applications. With both processors installed it can support up to 4TB of memory.
Outfitted with up to 24x 2.5-inch drives, and options for 6x more, the Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24H server is a perfect fit for storage-intensive applications in the data center or and enterprise network. It supports 1x or 2x 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28x physical cores and 56x virtual threads per socket. Featuring a significant memory footprint at up to 4TB, and massive storage this system can also be used to support in-memory database applications.
This system can be outfitted with one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or 2nd generation. With a thermal design point (TDP) ranging from 70W-205W, the entire family of Xeon Scalable CPUs from the 1st or 2nd generation are supported. 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors have the advantage of supporting data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) for data resiliency. Each CPU delivers 6x memory channels and supports 8x DIMM slots per CPU.
With 8x DIMMs per CPU, there are 16x active memory module slots with both processors installed. Registered, (RDIMM), and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) modules are supported using either 1st or 2nd generation CPUs. Only 2nd generation Xeon Scalable processors are compatible with DCPMMs for added resiliency. Memory speeds of up to 2933MHz are supported but memory speeds are dependent on both the supported processor memory speeds, memory modules, and configuration.
The 24x storage bays on the front of the 2U Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24H support SAS3 or SATA3 drive formats. 4x of those front bays can also be outfitted with optional NVMe drive formats but will require additional parts. A rear-mounted drive cage in back can support 2x hot-swap 2.5-inch SATA3 drive bays that can be used to boot the system. Alternatively, there are two x4 PCIe slots on the motherboard that can be outfitted with either 2x NVMe M.2 SSD drives. Onboard devices include a Broadcom 3108 Add-On-Card offering hardware RAID at 12Gb/s for SAS3 storage devices that support RAID SAS 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60; SATA RAID 0, 1, 5, 10.
With a Broadcom 3108 RAID controller and just a bunch of disks (JBDO)expansion port occupying PCIe slots 2 and 3, there are 5x more expansion slots left. All expansion slots are PCIe 3.0 with 2x of the 5x slots featuring a x16 slot and the other 3x featuring a x8 slot. As noted above, two PCIe x4 slots on the system board can be used to support the OS with just 2x M.2 drives.
A dedicated RJ45 management port on the back of the system provides access to the intelligent platform management interface or IPMI, for remote management of the system through the ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller. It features virtual media over LAN and KVM-over-LAN support. Several software suites Including Intel Node Manager and Supermicro SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) and Watchdog provide more features for managing the system. An Out of Band (OOB) management package requires a per node license for activation.
