Part of Supermicro’s SuperStorage line up, the 2U Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24L Server supports dual 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores each. 24x hot-swap SAS3/SATA3 storage bays line the front of the system, with 4x optional NVMe drives. There’s room for two 2.5-inch SATA3 drives and up to 4TB of memory.
With support for 24x 2.5-inch storage bays, the Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24L Server provides hybrid storage options for corporate database, database processing and storage, ISCSI SAN, and database applications. 1x or 2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or 2nd generation can be installed, providing the assets needed for applications in high-performance computing (HPC), use as an enterprise server, and for datacenters. It can support a maximum of 4TB of memory, and can also be configured with data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM). Plus, it has options to support the OS that won’t detract from the upfront storage. The system is powered by dual redundant 1200W Titanium Level PSUs and features 2x integrated 10Gb/s Base-T LAN ports.
1x or 2x Cascade Lake 2nd generation and Skylake 1st generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs can be installed on this system. CPUs with a thermal design point, or TDP, of 70W - 205W can be installed and include CPUs with up to 28 physical cores and 56 virtual threads. Each of the sockets supports 6x memory channels.
With 6x memory channels and 8x memory module slots per CPU socket, 4x memory channels are outfitted with a single Memory module, while the other four slots will have 2x DIMMs per channel (DPC). ECC Registered (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules, and DCPMMs. Supported memory speeds include 2933, 2666, 2400, and 2133MHz depending on choice of memory modules, CPU, and memory configuration.
24x 2.5-inch front storage bays support SAS3 and SATA3 drive types with an option for 4x NVMe in bays 20-23. The rear of the Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24L Server also supports a secondary drive cage with support for 2x SATA3 drives. 2x M.2 NVMe drives can also be installed on the systems board in 2x x4 PCIe slots located towards the rear of the system. Front, rear, and internally mounted M.2 drives provide options for additional storage and to support the OS in a mirrored RAID for redundancy. SAS drives are supported via a Broadcom 3.8 controller and provide data transfer speeds of up to 12Gb/s through a separate add-on-card.
There are a total of 7x PCIe 3.0 slots on the motherboard with 3x supporting a x16 slot and 4x with a x8 slot. Slots 2 and 3 are occupied by a controller and just a bunch of disks (JBOD) expansion port. 2x integrated 10Gb/s T-Base LAN ports.
The system supports remote management with an industry standard integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) compatible RJ45 port, plus supports KVM over LAN, and Media over LAN. Also supported is the Intel Node Manager, plus Supermicro’s proprietary management options including SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) and Watchdog. SuperDoctor 5 can be accessed via a command-line or a web-based interface for Windows and Linux Operating Systems. SuperDoctor 5 Management Server (SSM Server) allows remote control power on/off and detailed information on system status, inventory, and can be configured to send alerts.
Featuring dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the 2U Supermicro SuperStorage 2029P-E1CR24L Server offers the performance needed for applications in database processing, high-performance computing, and use as an enterprise server. This is a highly flexible platform offering dense up-front storage with 24x 2.5-inch hybrid storage bays, with the option for two more in back, plus support for dual M.2 drives to support the OS. At full capacity it can support up to 4TB of memory, including DCPMMs for greater resiliency with database and datacenter applications. IT Creations is a Supermicro distributor.
