The Supermicro SuperStorage 5049P-E1CR45H server is a 4U system featuring 45x 3.5-inch drive bays with an option for 4x more. It’s suitable for backup storage, cold storage, database applications, data warehousing, and archiving. It’s powered by a single socket compatible with Intel’s 2nd generation Xeon Scalable processors. Surrounding the processor are 8x DIMMs for a total capacity of up to 2TB of memory.
Built on the second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor architecture, the Supermicro SuperStorage 5049P-E1CR45H server supports up to 8x RDIMMs or LRDIMMs with a maximum of 2TB. Up to 45x LFF storage bays are available through a top-loading enclosure and an additional 4x SFF drives can be accessed through the rear. The system also offers a single M.2 and can be outfitted with SATA, SAS, and NVMe drive formats.
This short depth 4U system supports a single Intel Xeon Scalable processor from the 2nd generation with up to 28 cores. It features a thermal design power (TDP) rating of up to 165W to support high-performance workloads on the Supermicro 5049P-E1CR45H server. The 14nm process CPU can also support up to 56 virtual threads with five 80mm high-performance cooling fans on the rear, and 1000W redundant Platinum level power supplies. 2nd generation processors support 6x memory channels.
There are 4x memory module slots to each side of the single Intel Xeon processor, for a total of 8x DIMM slots. Outfitted with 256GB Registered (RDIMMs) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMMs) memory modules, the system can support up to 2TB of 3DS ECC memory when all slots are populated. RDIMMs or LRDIMMs can provide memory speeds ranging from 2133 MHz to 2933 MHz, even with 2 DIMMs per channel.
At 26-inches deep, the SuperStorage 5049P-E1CR45H server hosts 45x hot-swap 3.5” SAS or SATA drives. There is an option to further host 2x rear hot-swappable 2.5” SATA drives and 2x rear hot-swap 2.5” SATA or NVMe drives can also be loaded onto the rear of the chassis near the I/O ports. Although these rear drives can be used to run the operating system, the 4U platform also features a single M.2 card on the motherboard with a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface supporting SATA or NVMe M.2 drive options. Support of SAS3 drive formats requires a Broadcom 3108SAS3 HW RAID controller, with SATA drives supported natively via Intel’s C621 chipset RAID controller.
7x PCIe 3.0 slots allow the 5049P-E1CR45H platform to expand its functionalities. Six of these slots are x8 configurations while a single slot accommodates a x4 slot. The system also holds 1x PCIe 3.0 x4 slot that can be outfitted with a SATA or NVMe M.2 drive to boot the operating system.
Without physically engaging with the machine, you can remotely power on the server, use a virtually attached ISO of an operating system, and install and configure that OS. This is made possible with the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) providing remote access, monitoring, and management of the system. Supermicro SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) runs on a web browser or command-line interface and tracks system health metrics like CPU temperature, system voltages, system power usage, and fan speed. It can be configured to send alarms through email or Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
With the highest levels of performance, efficiency, security, and scalability available in the market, the Supermicro SuperStorage 5049P-E1CR45H server has many advantages over previous models. With just a single Intel Xeon Scalable processor from the 1st or 2nd generation, this system supports 8x DIMMs with up to 2TB of memory, plus 45x hot-swap LFF drive bays accessible through a top-loading enclosure. The flexibility and easy-to-use features make this machine appropriate for a variety of workloads in various industries.
