The Supermicro SuperStorage 5049P-E1CTR36L Server leverages a single 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor. This 4U server offers a total of 36x hot-swappable hybrid drive bays, combining the front and rear chassis storage bays. It also features 4x PCIe Gen3 slots and compatibility with Intel data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). Ideally, this system is a great fit for connectivity and storage compute nodes, plus database processing appliance platforms.
Offering 36x hybrid storage bays, the Supermicro SuperStorage 5049P-E1CTR36L supports up to 2TB of memory when all 8x memory module slots are populated. The characteristics which distinguish this system from other SuperStorage systems are the rear storage bays on the back of the chassis in addition to the ones on the front. With support from a single Intel Xeon Scalable processor, this server can expand your options as your business needs grow.
Based on the Intel C622 chipset, the Supermicro 5049P-E1CTR36L server has a single socket for a first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor supporting up to 28 cores and 56 threads with a TDP of 70W to 205W. The server comes equipped with dual 1200W redundant power supplies, which comes in handy if you want to fill it with plenty of hardware. The CPU supports up to 2TB of 3DS ECC DDR4 memory and can even deploy Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules, but only with a 2nd gen CPU.
With just a single 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor, this platform can support 8x DIMM slots with up to 2TB of memory. Up to 256GB of RDIMM, 512GB of LRDIMM, or 2TB of 3DS LRDMIMM or RDIMM DDR4 (288-pin) ECC memory with speeds of up to 2933MHz in eight memory slots can be deployed. When a second-generation processor is installed, Intel Optane DCPMMs can also be used.
The front panel on the 4U 5049P-E1CTR36L platform houses 24x drive bays and the remaining 12x are located on the rear. Both locations support hot-swap 3.5” SAS and SATA drive types. 2x additional optional storage bays on the back of the sytems support hot-swap SFF NVMe/SATA drive bays. In addition, 2x internal fixed bays support up to 4x 2.5” drive bays. To boot the operating system and avoid the front or rear storage bays, the system board supports an M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 interface with a 2280 form factor and there are 2x ports that can be outfitted with SATA SuperDOM. SATA drives are supported via the C622 controller providing RAID of 0, 1, 5, and 10. SAS drive formats are supported via Broadcom 3008 controller offering software RAID of 0, 1, 10. Optional add-on-card controllers are available offering a full range of hardware RAID formats.
The 5049P-E1CTR36L can accommodate up to four PCI expansion cards on the server board. These slots can be found on the rear of the chassis and consist of one PCIe 3.0 x4 (in x8) slot, two PCIe 3.0 x8 slots, and a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. Dual LAN with 10GBase-T with Intel X722 and X557 ports on the back of the server are located right next to a dedicated IPMI port. In addition, the server board supports an M.2 SSD PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe and SATA drive with a 2280 form factor on a double-height connector. Administrators can use this card to boot the operating system instead of using a front or rear drive bay.
On the back of the platform there is a dedicated Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0) port to locally manage the server. The ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMCs), comply with IPMI 2.0 standards, and enable remote management of the platform. The system can also be managed with Supermicro SuperDoctor5, Watch Dog, SPM, SUM, NMI, and KVM with dedicated LAN. As optional out-of-band license management package is required for remote management of the system.
The Supermicro SuperStorage 5049P-E1CTR36L Server is designed to excel in dense compute use cases. This server can be outfitted with a range of performance-driven components, including a single socket 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor, 2TB of DDR4 SRAM, and up to 36x hot-swap drive bays along the front and rear of the chassis. The system can also be equipped an M.2 card for fast boot of the OS.
