Designed with a recognizable feature, the 2U Supermicro SuperStorage 6029P-E1CR24H server has 12x front panel drive bays along with a mid-plane 12-bay section, for a total of 24x 3.5-inch drive bays. The dual-socket server is powered by two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the first- or second-generation with support for up to 6TB of memory.
The Supermicro SuperStorage 6029P-E1CR24H is a dual-processor system built around Intel’s C621 chipset to provide high-performance computing capabilities in a compact 2U chassis. The storage options on this system deliver outstanding performance for corporate database, database processing and storage, plus for use as an enterprise server, and use in the data center. With support for up to 24x memory module slots, plus Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM), this server offers plenty of flexibility for businesses looking to expand their capabilities.
*This server is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2 CPUs, 2 DIMMs, 6 HDDs and 1 NIC or SIOM card.
Powered by dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Supermicro 6029P-E1CR24H server is designed to provide the appropriate amount of core-to-disk ratio. Each CPU can provide 4x to 28x cores and 8x to 56x threads even with a thermal design power (TDP) limit of up to 165W. The 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable refresh SKUs deliver a lower cost of ownership with a potential for one core per drive—all while using less power. The motherboard on this platform only supports the Non-F model CPUs, which do not have an integrated omni-path fabric connector. Both CPUs must be installed in order to have full access to the PCIe slots, DIMM slots, and onboard controllers. The system is cooled by five 8cm heavy duty fans situated behind the mid-plane drives, which can be replaced without powering down the system. An additional 3x air shrouds are placed inside the chassis to direct airflow and maximize fan efficiency.
Offering Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), and Data Centric Persistent Memory Module (DCPMM) support, the SuperStorage 6029P-E1CR24H features up to 24x active memory module slots with and up to 6TB of 3DS ECC DDR4 memory when both processors are installed. Memory speeds range from 2133MHz to 2933MHz depending on the memory type mounted on the server board. Additionally, one can enhance the system with capabilities like DCPMM to support higher capacities at lower latencies than the existing memory modules. It’s important to note that only 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs support DCPMM technology.
A total of 26x hot-swap drive bays can be configured with SAS or SATA drive formats. The drive bays are divided with 12x drives on the front panel, 12x drives on the mid-plane, and an additional 2x drives on the rear. The rear SAS or SATA drive bays accommodate SFF drives while the remaining 24x storage bays support 3.5” drives. An optional kit can be used to install 4x NVMe drives on the front panel in slots 20-23.
The system provides 3x PCIe slots on the rear of the chassis for low-profile, half-length expansion cards, 1x PCIe 3.0 x8 and 2x PCIe 3.0 x16, to support networking and storage options. The bottom rear edge of the platform also includes a Supermicro I/O Module (SIOM) networking slot offering additional network ports and connection speeds that won’t detract from the limited PCIe slots available.
The 6029P-E1CR24H server utilizes Supermicro’s management software suite to virtually adjust settings. The suite includes SuperDoctor5 (SD5), Watch Dog, SPM, SSM, SUM, NMI, Redfish API, and Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0). SD5 monitors system health indicators such as CPU temperature, system voltages, system power consumption, and fan speed. It can be used with a web browser or command-line interface, and it can transmit warnings using the SNM Protocol or email (SNMP).
Delivering an innovative design for businesses wanting to scale out their storage, the Supermicro SuperStorage 6029P-E1CR24H provides front, mid-plane, and rear storage access. Outfitted with dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or 2nd generation, it can support memory capacities of up to 6TB of memory, plus DCPMM configurations for more flexibility and resiliency.
