The AMD EPYC-based Supermicro TwinPro A+ Server 2014TP-HTR stands out from all the other TwinPro systems. At 2U, the platform houses 12x 3.5-inch drives divided between four hot-pluggable nodes, each powered by a single AMD EPYC processor from the 2nd or 3rd generation. Each node supports 8x memory module slots with speeds of up to 3200MHz.
Designed for compute intensive applications, plus data center and hyperscale and hyperconverged networks, the Supermicro TwinPro 2014TP-HTR houses 4x enterprise server nodes. Each of the server nodes supports a single AMD EPYC processor from the 7002 or 7003 series, with up to 64 cores. The chassis supports 12x 3.5” SATA drive bays, with three drive bays allocated to each node.
As a 2U TwinPro configuration, the 2014TP-HTR server comes with four server nodes incorporated into a single chassis. Each node is hot-swappable and acts independently, supporting a single AMD EPYC processor from the 7002 or 7003 series. Each CPU supports up to 64 cores with a TDP of up to 280W. Each processor also supports 8x memory channels with 8x memory module slots for up to 2TB of memory, per node.
*Some CPUs with high TDP may only be supported under certain conditions.
Overall, with all server nodes at capacity the TwinPro system will support up to 8TB of memory, with each node supporting 2TB of memory among 8x memory module slots. Memory speeds can reach 3200MHz with 3DS load-reduced (LRDIMM) ECC DDR4 SDRAM. The error correction code on the memory modules corrects single-bit errors and detects double-bit errors. Memory supported on this system includes: RDIMM, LRDIMM, 3DS, NVDIMM.
For storage, this TwinPro can be outfitted with 12x 3.5” SATA3 drive bays on the front of the chassis. A single backplane controls power and fan speed functions while also connecting three hard drives to each of the four nodes. Most 2U four-node systems are dual-socket, but because this model has a single-socket, there is more room for additional hardware. The system features four M.2 NVMe SSD slots supporting 22110 form factors, per node.
Supermicro leverages the 100GbE adapters and a Supermicro I/O Module (SIOM) slot for networking. The system also has two PCIe 4.0 x16 low-profile slots, per node, that can be accessed through the rear of the chassis.
There are several software programs that can help manage the system including IPMI 2.0, Watch Dog, and SuperDoctor 5 (SD5). SuperDoctor 5 continuously checks the hardware health and availability of target node systems in data centers and sends administrators alerts if there’s an issue. The program monitors fan speed, temperature, power consumption, and memory health, among other hardware. Access to the system is through the dedicated baseboard management controller (BMC) and for remote access to the system requires the Software out-of-band license key.
With a single AMD EPYC processor in each of the 4x server nodes, the Supermicro TwinPro A+ Server 2014TP-HTR is able to provide the same performance as a dual-socket server, while consuming half the power and operating at a lower cost. The 2U system supports up to 2TB of memory among 8x DIMMs, plus 3x SATA storage drives, per node. This server takes advantage of newer solutions such as PCIe Gen4 and 7003 series AMD EPYC CPUs to maximize performance and help businesses grow from now into the future.
