Featuring 2x hot-pluggable nodes capable of supporting 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DC0R also supports Intel’s Optane DC persistent memory modules. The server houses high-performance hardware ideal for mission-critical applications, all in a 1U platform.
As an Intel-based system, the Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DC0R features dual 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors per node. Each server node also supports a total of 16x memory module slots, 4x hot-swap drive bays, and 2x PCIe slots. This is a 1U platform ideal for mission critical applications, offering high-availability storage via flexible network support provided by the Supermicro I/O Module (SIOM).
Two first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, including the 2nd generation Cascade Lake refresh, can be mounted in each server node. However, the server is only compatible with the non-fabric model CPUs. Up to 28 cores and a thermal design point (TDP) ranging from 70W to 145W are can be installed and support 16x memory modules and up to 4TB of memory, per node. The CPUs offer different memory performance including speeds and memory density depending on your choice of CPU. Administrators must install both CPUs to obtain full access to the PCIe slots, memory module slots, and onboard controllers.
As mentioned in the section above, the two nodes in the TwinPro 1029TP-DC0R support 16x memory module slots with up to 4TB of memory. Each CPU supports 6x memory channels and 8x memory slots per socket. Memory modules compatible with this server include registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules, as well as the 3DS versions of each. Memory speeds and amounts vary depending on the CPU generation installed. For example, only 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs are capable of reaching the fastest memory speed of 2933MHz. In other instances, memory speeds between 1333MHz and 2666MHz are supported depending on your choice of CPU. The system can also be configured to support up to 2TB of Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules (DCPMM) when second-generation Xeon CPUs are installed to provide hyper-speed storage capability.
When looking at the front of the TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DC0R chassis, there are 8x hot-swap 2.5” SAS3/SATA3 drive bays. The 8x drive bays are divided equally among the two server nodes. Carriers without drives must be kept in the chassis since each carrier is necessary to promote adequate cooling of the system. The system supports a dual set of Broadcom 3108 HW RAID 12Gb/s SAS 3.0 controller for RAID options 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50.
With storage occupying the front of the chassis, each node has two PCIe 3.0 x16 low-profile slots on the rear. A pre-installed riser card on the Supermicro 1029TP-DC0R allows a standard size PCIe x8 card to fit within the chassis. The other expansion options on the X11 motherboard include an SIOM card and 2x onboard SuperDOMs that can be used to support the OS or for additional storage. Alternatively, the same slot used for the SuperDOM hardware can support an optional add on card (AOC) featuring either 2x SATA or 1x NVMe M.2 slots on each node. Both the M.2 slots and SuperDOMs are used to boot the operating system and cannot be installed simultaneously.
SuperDoctor 5 (SD5), IPMI 2.0, and Watchdog are among the remote management solutions available to administrators for the Twin SuperServer 6029TR-HTR. SD5 keeps track of the hardware health or availability of the target node systems in data centers. In case the hardware fails, the program can be configured to send alerts to administrators.
