The Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DC1R differs from the other two servers in this 1U Supermicro TwinPro family due to its onboard storage controller. Otherwise, the system supports 2x hot-swappable server nodes each with 16x DIMM slots, 4x hot-swap 2.5” drive bays, and support for dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This system provides the best performance for highly-intensive workloads, all under the hood of a 1U form factor.
As a dual-node high-end server, the Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DC1R is outfitted with 2x SATA M.2 slots or 2x SuperDOMs to boot the OS. It also supports Intel’s 2nd generation Cascade Lake refresh CPUs, and 1st generation CPUs, as well as Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules for high-capacity, high-performance modules in DDR4 sockets.
The two Intel-based server nodes support dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the first- or second-generation. Only non-fabric CPUs are supported on this system. Each processor supports up to 28 cores with a TDP ranging from 70W to 145W. If the Cascade Lake Refresh CPUs are installed, BIOS version 3.2 or above is required. To gain full access to the PCIe slots, memory module slots, and onboard controllers, administrators must install both CPUs.
Each of the server nodes in the 1U TwinPro 1029TP-DC1R is outfitted with 16x memory module slots that can support up to 4TB of 3DS ECC DDR4 load-reduced (LRDIMM) or registered (RDIMM) memory modules. Memory speeds are dependent on which Intel processors are installed. Using second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, memory rates of up to 2933MHz can be obtained and Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules can be deployed. Memory speeds vary between 1333MHz and 2666MHz in other situations.
Storage-wise, the two nodes on the 1029TP-DC1R server are allocated 4x hot-swap 2.5” hard disk drive bays each. These drives are compatible with SATA and SAS-based storage devices. The platform supports a dual set of Broadcom 3008 HW RAID 12 Gbps SAS 3.0 controller for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 with optional SuperCap for flash-backed write cache support.
The SuperServer 1029TP-DC1R uses a single dedicated integrated platform management interface (IPMI) LAN port on each node and features two PCIe 3.0 x16 low-profile slots on the rear. Administrators can add up to 2x M.2 SSDs or 2x SuperDOMs on the motherboard to boot the operating system, but they both cannot exist together.
To manage the system, Supermicro’s SuperDoctor 5 software monitors the hardware health and availability of the target node systems in data centers real-time and can be configured to provide alerts to administrators in the event something fails. The serve is also compatible with IPMI 2.0, Watchdog, and Intel Node Manager.
The Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DC1R is designed for mission-critical applications and supports 2x separate server nodes each with up to 4TB of memory, 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, plus 2x M.2 slots to boot the OS. The server also supports Intel’s 2nd generation Cascade Lake refresh CPUs, as well as the standard 1st or 2nd generation processors. Intel’s Optane DC Persistent memory modules are only supported using 2nd generation Intel Xeon processors. As a 1U system in the TwinPro family, this server can take advantage of new technology and power data centers with demanding workloads.
