As part of the Supermicro TwinPro family, the Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DTR supports two hot-pluggable nodes in a 1U form factor. The high-end server nodes features support for the latest 2nd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor refresh, 4x hot-swap drive bays, and 2x PCIe slots per node. The system is well-suited for mission critical applications that need the best performance.
The Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DTR platform features the latest technology including the second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs plus Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules (DCPMM) hosted by two hot-pluggable server nodes. Each node supports a dedicated IPMI LAN port on the rear of the chassis, dual sockets on each motherboard, and 4x hot-swap 2.5” HDD storage bays for the most highly-intensive workloads.
Either 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, including the latest Cascade Lake refresh, are supported with up to 28 cores each and a TDP ranging from 70W to 145W. To gain full access to the PCIe slots, memory module slots, and onboard controllers, administrators must install both CPUs.
Surrounding the processors in each node are 8x memory module slots for a total of 16x DIMMs per node. A total of 4TB of ECC DDR4 memory is supported. The TwinPro 1029TP-DTR is compatible with registered (RDIMM), load-reduced (LRDIMM), and non-volatile (NVDIMM) memory modules using first generation Intel processors. Memory speeds are determined by the speed of the memory modules and the system’s processor defaulting to the slowest performer of the two. Only a few 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs enable the fastest memory speed of 2933MHz. Memory speeds can range from 1333MHz to 2666MHz in other cases. Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules are also supported but only using second-generation Intel CPUs to provide higher capacity at lower latencies than standard DDR4 memory modules.
On the front of the 1U chassis there are 8x storage bays with 4x assigned to each node. These bays support SATA3 hot-swap 2.5-inch hard disk and solid-state drives mounted in drive carriers. The carriers also help to increase ventilation in the drive bays. As a result, even carriers that do not have drives installed, must remain in the chassis. Each server supports Intel’s C621 chipset with controller for 4x SATA3 6 Gbps ports, plus support for RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10.
On the back of each node there are 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 low-profile slots. The Supermicro 1029TP-DTR comes with a pre-installed riser card that allows a regular size PCIe x8 card to fit within the chassis at a 90-degree angle. Moreover, 2x onboard SuperDOMs and an Supermicro I/O Module (SIOM) card are supported as well as 1x NVMe M.2 drive or 2x SATA M.2 drives directly on the motherboard. It’s important to note that the M.2 and SuperDOM are both used to boot the operating system and cannot coexist.
*Barebones and complete systems must bundle with at least one SIOM card per node.
Supermicro offers at-chassis and remote management for this server. The server supports software programs such as Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0), Watchdog, and SuperDoctor 5. IPMI 2.0 provides access to power, restart, temperature, and other hardware functions to ensure the server is in good health.
The Supermicro TwinPro SuperServer 1029TP-DTR is only 1U, but it can house two nodes with support for a dedicated IPMI LAN port on the rear, dual sockets on each motherboard, and 4x hot-swap 2.5” HDD storage bays each. Featuring support for the second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPU refresh and Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules, this platform provides high performance with flexible configuration options to take on the most highly compute-intensive workloads.
