The dual socket Supermicro Ultra SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV-NEBS-DC is a 2U short-depth server featuring the X11 generation motherboard with support for specific Intel Xeon Scalable Gold processors. The server has 6x hybrid 2.5-inch drive bays, which can be configured with SAS, SATA, or NVMe drives. This system is ideal for 5G core and edge computing, AI inference and machine learning, as well as cloud computing and data center applications.
Supermicro’s Ultra SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV-NEBS-DC is a 2U dual-socket server designed for the telecom central office and data center. With support for Intel’s Xeon Gold 6240R processors, this high-end server delivers two 24-core CPUs, 24 memory module slots, and up to 1.5TB of DDR4 memory. NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) is a common set of safety, special and environmental guidelines applied to telecommunications equipment in the United States and provides standardization best practices for equipment installed in the central office.
*For the best performance, this server is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2 CPUs, 4 DIMMs, and 1 NIC adapter. The NIC adapter requirement includes 1 ultra-riser card.
As part of the Supermicro NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) Level 3-certified server lineup, the Supermicro 2029U-MTNRV-NEBS-DC supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable Gold 6240R processors with up to 24 cores and 48 threads. The processor also features a 165W TDP, plus a 2.4GHz base clock and 4.0GHz turbo boost. These processors offer a 1.5TB memory footprint with 24x DIMMs operating at speeds of up to 2933MHz.
The Ultra SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV-NEBS-DC platform houses up to 24x memory module slots with a variety of memory options. The motherboard is compatible with registered (3DS RDIMM/RDIMM), load-reduced (3DS LRDIMM/LRDIMM), and non-volatile (NVDIMM) memory modules. 3DS RDIMM and 3DS LRDIMM will support up to 6TB of memory, while LRDIMM supports 3TB with speeds of up to 2933MHz. However, this configuration is limited to only 1.5TB of RDIMM memory modules supported by two Intel Xeon Scalable Gold 6240R CPUs.
By default, the 2U short-depth system is equipped with 6x 2.5-inch hot-swap storage drive bays that can be configured to support SATA, SAS, or NVMe. SAS and NVMe require additional parts. The drives can be accessed through the front of the chassis and are mounted in tool-less drive carriers that simplify their installation and removal from the chassis and help promote proper airflow. Per NEBS requirements, the air filter on the front panel that keeps the storage bays secure, must be replaced about every six months, depending on the environment, to avoid overheating.
For more storage options, the server features two optional M.2 cards via PCIe or SATA3 with lengths of 2260, 2280, and 22110. Additionally, this server supports four 8-pin power connectors on the motherboard for optional GPU devices. Due to NEBS Level 3 high thermal criteria, only two double-width GPUs are recommended to be installed in the system. Specific riser cards are needed to install 4x single-width low-profile Tesla T4 GPU cards or 4x N3000-N Intel FPGA cards.
On the rear of the chassis there is a selection of ports including dual 25G SFP28 LAN ports and a dedicated baseboard management controller (BMC) LAN port for networking and management of the system. Using a vast variety of programs, the system can be managed remotely or at-chassis. Some programs include Intel Node Manager, SuperDoctor 5, IPMI 2.0, and Redfish API.
Outfitted with dual Intel Xeon Scalable Gold 6240R processors, the Supermicro Ultra SuperServer 2029U-MTNRV-NEBS-DC is a 2U short-depth server with NEBS Level 3 certifications. Designed for the telecom central office or data center, this server is ideal for 5G core and edge computing, AI inference and machine learning, and cloud computing. The 24 memory module slots with up to 1.5TB of DDR4 memory and the 6x flexible storage bays will allow businesses to tackle the most compute-intensive workloads.
