With support for Dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, up to four GPUs, and terabytes of storage, the Tyan Thunder HX FT48BB7100 B7100F48BV10HR-N Server offers some impressive performance.
Intel’s C621 chipset supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum families up to 205W. The Intel Scalable processors feature six memory channels. Power is supplied by two 1600W 80 Plus Platinum redundant power supplies.
A lockable bezel on the front of the system conceals up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA HDD and or SSD storage devices. Two more are mounted in back for up to 10 2.5-inch drives total. An integrated HD/RAID controller supports up to 10 SATA drives with 6Gb/s access speeds. SAS drives are not supported in the rear drive bays and will need a separate PCIe HD controller card to support SAS, like the Broadcom SAS 9300-8e MegaRAID controller offering transfer speeds of up to 12Gb/s. Two M.2 Storage devices can also be mounted directly on the motherboard adjacent to the PCIe slots. Additional M.2 storage devices can be installed using a PCIe card (TYAN P2111-2M) that supports two M.2 storage devices.
Each of the two processors supports six memory slots and six memory channels for a total of 12 memory slots on the system board. Memory performance on the Tyan FT48BB7100 B7100F48BV10HR-N server is maximized with a single memory module populated in each of the memory channels. Registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) 3DS memory modules will provide a maximum capacity of 1.5TB.
There are seven PCIe 3.0 ports on the system board with four x16 slots and three x8 slots for seven slots total. Four double-wide high-performance Nvidia Tesla GPUs can be installed in the x16 PCIe slots. The system features dual GbE ports on the back of the system with one providing access to the IPMI management module. Faster network access of up to 25GbE is provided by PCIe-based I/O cards, like the dual port Intel XXV710-DA2. Two USB 3.0 on the front and four on the back support additional external devices.
An Onboard Base Management Controller (BMC) with Intelligent Platform Management interface (IPMI) through the RJ-45 management port on the back of the system provides local and remote management of the system. Remote management is through the MegaRAC GUI, which provides a simple graphic interface using a standard web browser. A control panel on the front of the system features a bank of LED lights to indicate server status including, LAN ports 1 and 2, HDDs, and power.
