With support for up to four Tesla GPUs from Nvidia, the Tyan Thunder HX GA88B5631 B5631G88V2HR-2T-N Server Barebones offers powerful performance in a 1U chassis with a single Xeon Scalable processor and support for up to 1.5TB of memory! This platform is densely packed with the latest technology and offers an economical alternative to a dual-socket platform.
Up to 4 Nvidia Tesla GPUs provide plenty of Cuda cores for complex parallel-processing tasks and is a good choice for scale-out compute performance. Supporting just a single processor, the Tyan Thunder HX GA88B5631 B5631G88V2HR-2T-N Server Barebones still supports up to 2TB of memory along with superfast M.2 storage plus optional 100Gb I/O. This platform is ideal for applications requiring large-scale facial recognition, machine learning, deep neural networks, and other applications that entail ridiculously parallel workloads.
A single Gen 1 or Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processor with a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 165W from either the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum families can be installed. However, only specific memory modules support capacities up to 1.5TB. Using a Gen 1 Intel Xeon Scalable processor the system will support memory speeds of up to 2666MHz, while the Gen 2 intel Xeon Scalable processors support memory speeds of up to 2933MHz. Redundant 1600W power supply units (PSUs) provide power but only for input power greater than 200V. At 120V they system requires both PSUs in full operation to support the component power draw.
Two 2.5-inch, hot-swap storage bays are located on the front of the system. And additional two full-sized M.2 storage devices can be installed on the system board adjacent to the CPU and memory modules. This platform also supports a maximum of two Tyan DOMs (Disk on Module) for high-performance SATA3 flash memory SSD storage, and simulates a 6Gb/s HDD storage device. The DOM is a tiny circuit board that plugs into the SATA3 port (typically orange) on the system board. Although, I should mention with only one or two flash storage modules on the DOM circuit board it’s not a good option for high-I/O write and read applications.
There are 12 memory slots total on the Tyan GA88B5631 B5631G88V2HR-2T-N Server Barebones system board. The single Xeon Scalable processor supports up to six memory channels with two modules slots per channel. DDR4 memory running at up to 2666MHz is supported and depending on your choice of registered, load reduces or 3DS registered and Load-reduced memory modules you can install up to 1.5TB of memory using the appropriate processor. Registered (RDIMM) memory modules will only provide up to 384GB of memory, or twice that using load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules.
A single PCIe x16 slot is located in four separate GPU cages, each of which can support a single high-performance, double-wide Nvidia Tesla GPU. Up to ten high-performance fans provide cooling with a few located in front of each internal GPU bay. The GPUs are also oriented for maximal air flow front to back. Another PCIe 3.0 x16 riser supports a single Tyan network I/O card supporting up to 100Gb/s network access speeds. Aside from adding a PCIe card for network communications, two 10GbE RJ-45 ports and a single dedicated port for management of the system are located on the back panel.
An Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) provides access to the Tyan GA88B5631 B5631G88V2HR-2T-N Server with a modern JAVA-driven interface. iKVM is also supported along with Redfish API designed for scale-out servers in data centers and cloud to deliver simple and secure management of infrastructure assets with a simple to use interface.
For GPGPU enhanced computing the Tyan Thunder HX GA88B5631 B5631G88V2HR-2T-N Server Barebones delivers in a surprisingly compact space at 1U. You can have up to 16 high-performance Nvidia computational accelerators in just 4-5U of rack space if you stack four of these together for some truly impressive performance.
