The Tyan Thunder SX FA100B7118 B7118F100V100HR storage server maximizes application performance and storage capacity with a 4U form factor. Supporting up to 100x internal SATA drives, this enclosure is designed for hyper-scale storage capacity. The system also features dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors plus 16x memory module slots for up to 2TB of memory, depending on which memory modules are installed.
At 4U, the Tyan Thunder SX FA100B7118 B7118F100V100HR is a large top-loading storage server with up to 100x hot-swap HDD/SSD drive bays. It offers support for second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, as well as Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules. When all 16x DIMMs are populated, the system supports up to 2TB of memory with speeds reaching up to 2933MHz, depending on which type of CPU and memory modules are installed.
A compute blade (MB Module) on the far right of the chassis supports two 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores each and includes pre-installed risers. Behind that is an expander module with SAS backplane and SAS mezzanine card for drive support. The CPUs support 16x memory module slots with up to 2TB of memory supporting a maximum memory speed of 2666MHz. Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules (DCPMM) are also compatible, but are only supported by specific second-generation Intel Scalable CPUs. Two 1600W PSUs power the system. As a matter of note, there are two different heatsinks for the MB Module and the system requires one of each, aluminum and copper, respectively.
With 6x channels per CPU, the Tyan Thunder SX FA100B7118 B7118F100V100HR server supports up to 16x memory module slots in the MB Module. The memory modules surrounding the dual processors can support a maximum of 2,048GB when using LRDIMM 3DS modules. Regular LRDIMMs support up to 1,024GB, while RDIMMs support up to 512GB. As stated in the section above, Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules (DCPMM) are also compatible and can reach speeds of 2933MHz, but they are only supported by specific second-generation Intel Scalable CPUs. All memory must be of the same type and density.
There are 100x internal, hot-swap drive bays in the B7118F100V100HR that can be configured for 3.5” or 2.5” drives and features a SATA backplane. These internal drives support SATA hard disk drives or SSDs with a SAS 12Gb/s interface using two Broadcom controllers. The hot-swappable drive bays keep mission-critical applications up and running during replacements and upgrades. Aside from the drive bays, there is a single NVMe M.2 connector with a maximum length of 22110 which can be connected by PCIe or SATA interface. If you are using 3.5-inch drives then mounting the drives in the drive trays requires no tools. However, 2.5-inch drives will require mounting screws.
A single preinstalled riser card on the FA100B7118 B7118F100V100HR allows you to install an add-on card into the expansion slot, which is accessible from the front of the system. This supports one PCI-E Gen3 x16 slot and an OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot, also accessible from the front of the chassis.
The dual-socket Tyan Thunder SX FA100B7118 B7118F100V100HR system adds tons of flexibility options making it ideal for a growing business environment. Since the back of the chassis features 8x hot-swap fans and two redundant power supplies, the front panel has all of the I/O port you would usually find on the rear. There is a GbE port dedicated for IPMI, as well as an onboard baseboard management controller (BMC) with IPMI and iKVM support.
