The Intel C621 chipset allows you to install a single 1st generation or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor with up to 205W TDP. Choose from a selection of Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs including those with up to 28 cores, utilizing a 14nm process architecture to support 12x memory modules and up to 1.5T of memory. Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules are also supported, but only when using specific second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
This highly optimized rack-mountable platform is part of the Tyan Thunder SX GT62FB5630 three-server family. On the front panel, this system supports up to 10x drive bays, including 2x hot-swap 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drives or SSDs and 8x NVMe drives. Using NVMe U.2 storage devices this system can easily accommodate high-speed storage and streaming applications that benefit from fast flash storage.
There are 12x DDR4 memory module slots on the Thunder SX GT62FB5630 B5630G62FV2E8HR server. The single Scalable processor supports 6x memory channels with two module slots per channel. Memory speeds range from 2666MHz to 2933MHz, depending on which type of memory and CPU is used. The fastest speed can only be accomplished with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs. RDIMM 3DS and LRDIMM 3DS will provide up to 1,536GB, while LRDIMM supports up to 768GB. RDIMM will only provide up to 384GB. As mentioned in the previous section, Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules are only supported by specific 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs.
A preinstalled riser card supports a PCIe Gen3 x16 slot. There’s also an optional PCIe Gen3 x8 OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot for adding more network connections without sacrificing the limited PCIe slots. In addition, a storage mezzanine card with 2x PCIe x8 OCuLink connectors supports 4x NVMe ports. Additional mini SAS ports on the system board support the rest of the storage drives.
A 1Gb RJ45 LAN port on the back of the chassis is dedicated for the baseboard management controller (BMC), and the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) architecture.
