Designed for Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) compute applications, the Tyan Transport CX GC68B8036-LE B8036G68V4E4HR-LE server supports SATA and NVMe on the front of the chassis. A single AMD EPYC processor from the 7002 or 7003 series, provides up to 64 cores and 128 threads making it a low-cost high-performance server in a 1U chassis.
With two rows of drive bays on the front of the chassis, the Tyan Transport CX GC68B8036-LE B8036G68V4E4HR-LE server supports 3.5-inch SATA and smaller 7mm NVMe drives, all in a 1U platform. The motherboard supports two PCIe Gen4 slots for increased reliability, and a single processor from the AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 line of CPUs.
With the AMD SP3 socket, the Tyan Transport CX GC68B8036-LE B8036G68V4E4HR-LE offers support for the AMD EPYC 7002 “Rome” or 7003 “Milan” series CPUs. Based on AMDs 7nm process technology, the CPU features up to 64 cores and 128 threads to support 16x memory module slots with up to 4TB of memory. The AMD processor is limited to 240W of configurable thermal design power (cTDP).
Surrounding the single CPU, are 8x channels which can house 2x memory modules per channel, for a total of 16x active memory module slots. Three types of memory modules are compatible with this system including registered (RDIMM), load-reduced (LRDIMM), and LRDIMM 3DS. All types of DIMMs support memory speeds of up to 3200MHz, but differ in total memory capacity. RDIMMs support up to 2,048GB, while LRDIMMs and LRDIMM 3DS support up to 4,096GB.
The front of the chassis displays two rows of different sized drive bays. The bottom row has four tool-less, hot-swappable 3.5” drive bays with support for SATA 6G or SAS 12G devices. These drives support hard disk drives or SSDs. The top row has four tool-less, hot-swappable 2.5” SSD drive bays, but only support 7mm drive and are designed for NVMe storage. Aside from the SSDs and HDDs on the front of the server, there are also 2x M.2 NVMe connectors on the motherboard with a maximum length of 22110 with a PCIe Gen3 SATA interface. These internal drives can be used in mirror mode as boot drives for redundancy.
The two expansion slots are half-length connected by a riser with PCIe Gen4 x16 slots. These slots are not suitable for powerful GPUs or accelerators, but are compatible with the onboard Broadcom BCM5720 1GbE NICs. If you want to use SAS drives in the 3.5-inch storage bays you will need a discrete HD controller.
The system uses an ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMC) with the web management interface, MegaRAC SP-X. This is a server management solution composed of firmware and software components to monitor and control a server remotely. The HTML5 interface can even be navigated on phones or tablets using a standard browser.
At 1U, the Tyan Transport CX GC68B8036-LE B8036G68V4E4HR-LE server packs powerful performance. Even with just a single AMD EPYC processor from the 7002 “Rome” or 7003 “Milan” series the system will support up to 16x DIMMs, with a maximum of up to 4TB of memory. Equipped with 8x drive bays up front, the server supports 4x SATA bays and 4x smaller NVMe bays, plus an additional 2x internal M.2 NVMe slots.
