The 1U, 2S Tyan Transport CX GC79B8252 B8252G79AE12HR-2T server is designed for use as a cloud server. Outfitted with dual AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 series processors and a little over 8TB of memory, this platform can be applied to a number of high-performance computing workloads.
With 12x NVMe U.2 drive bays up front, the Tyan Transport CX GC79B8252 B8252G79AE12HR-2T Server offers fast and resilient storage for use in eCommerce or webhosting. At only 1U in height it can also add 8TB of memory without taking up a lot of space. AMD’s EPYC series processors also provide up to 64 cores for more virtual machines, and up to 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes offering substantial throughput in support of storage and I/O. Power is provided by 1+1 redundant 1200W 80+ Platinum power supply units (PSUs).
CPUs on this platform are limited to a thermal design point (TDP) of 240W, which will still allow the installation of processors from 8 to 64 cores. Double the core count for the supported number of virtual threads. With AMD CPUs, the system has 8x memory channels for significant memory density.
Each of the processors supports 16x memory module slots for a total of 32x active memory module slots with both processors installed. With 8x memory channels per CPU, a total of 2x memory modules can be installed per memory channel. At full capacity, and with both processors installed, the system can support a little over 8TB of memory using Registered DIMM (RDIMM) memory modules in all slots. Both Standard and 3Ds RDIMM and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported.
12x 2.5-inch storage bays on the front of the system support NVMe U.2 drives natively for increased speed and resiliency. They can also be configured with 4x SATA drives in the first two columns of drive bays on the left, with the other 4x columns of drive bays on the right loaded with U.2 NVMe drive types. The backplane is capable of supporting SAS, SATA and NVMe drives, but if SAS drives are desired a discrete SAS HBA/RAID adapter is required. For booting the operating system (OS), the platform supports two M.2 drives in x4 PCIe 4.0 slots on the system board.
Given the 1U height of the Tyan Transport CX GC79B8252 B8252G79AE12HR-2T Server, there are only 2x full-height, half-width cards supported on this chassis. Both slots are x16 PCIe 4.0 with one in each of the two riser cards. In addition to the 2x M.2 slots on the system board with a x4 PCIe 4.0 interface, there is a PCIe 4.0 x16 mezzanine slot for an Open Compute Project 3.0 (OCP) mezzanine LAN card, which will help preserve the limited PCIe slots. There are two dedicated 10GbE LAN ports on the back of the system, plus a 1GbE dedicated management port for access to the integrated platform management interface (IPMI). The BMC is also compatible with Redfish.
In addition to the LEDs in the control panel on the front of the system monitoring system status, plus voltage and temperature readings, the system has an integrated Aspeed AST2500 module for remote and at-chassis management. The module also has an iKVM feature and supports storage over IP and remote platform flash.
Offering dual AMD EPYC processors in a 1U chassis, the Tyan Transport CX GC79B8252 B8252G79AE12HR-2T Server offers fairly substantial storage and a large memory footprint at a little over 8TB.
