Description

A single AMD EPYC CPU with up to 96 cores provides compute for the Tyan Transport SX TS70AB8056 B8056T70AE26HR-2T storage server. It offers all-flash NVMe drive bays to provide faster transfer rates for high-performance web server workloads. The 2U system also supports up to 3TB of DDR5 memory with speeds up to 4800MHz. This server can be applied to a number of storage intensive workloads including software defined storage, distributed database applications, content distribution and other enterprise workloads. The system is powered by 80 Plus Platinum 1+1 redundant PSUs.

Performance

With just a single AMD EPYC processor from the 9004 “Zen 4” series, the Transport SX TS70AB8056 B8056T70AE26HR-2T can provide more cores than a comparable 2x socket platform. AMD’s 9004 series processors deliver 5nm process technology and up to 96 cores. This chassis can be configured with CPUs that have a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 400W. Depending on the CPU series level, memory speeds of up to 4800MHz can power up to 24x DIMMs and provide up to 3,072GB of memory.

Memory

12x memory channels per CPU enable a total of 24x memory module slots on the TS70AB8056 B8056T70AE26HR-2T server. Up to 3,072GB of DDR5 ECC registered (RDIMM) memory modules are supported by the AMD EPYC processor. Depending on the SKU of processor and memory modules installed, memory speeds ranging from 4000MHz to 4800MHz are supported.

Storage

As an all-flash storage server, the Tyan Transport SX B8056T70AE26HR-2T supports 26x 2.5” hot-swap NVMe U.2 drive bays with light blue tabs on the front panel. While boosting transfer rates and enabling better data stability, this setup delivers significantly lower latency. In addition to the external drive bays, this system has 2x NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots on the motherboard, which can be populated with 22110 or 2280 cards.

Expansion

There are 2x pre-installed riser cards on the Tyan TS70AB8056 B8056T70AE26HR-2T server. One holds 2x full-height, half-length PCIe 5.0 x16 slots while the other supports one full-height, half-length PCIe 5.0 x8 slot. In addition to these slots, the server features a PCIe Gen5 x16 OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot, 2x 10GbE ports, via Intel X710-AT2, and a dedicated GbE port for IPMI.

Management

An IPMI 2.0 baseboard management controller is used by the onboard Aspeed AST2600 IPMI to control the system via the dedicated GbE port on the back of the chassis. A USB 2.0 virtual hub and remote platform flash are among the integrated remote AST2600 iKVM features. This can serve as a remote or local management option to monitor hardware such as CPU temperatures, status, power usage, and fan speed.
