Designed for the Dell PowerEdge XR4000-series chassis, the Dell PowerEdge XR4520c Sled supports a single 3rd generation Intel Xeon D Scalable processor. It offers similar specs to the nearly 1U XR4510c sled but has 2x PCIe slots for expansion devices including optional support for 1x double-wide or 2x single-wide GPUs.
The system supports a CPU with up to 20 physical cores and 40 virtual threads. At full capacity it can be outfitted with up to 512GB of DDR4 Load-Reduced memory (LRDIMM) or 256GB of Registered memory (RDIMM). The main difference between the XR4520c Sled and the XR4510c Sled is the nearly 2U height, which accommodates 2x PCIe slots which can be used for additional storage, NICs or GPUs or a combination of options. GPUs supported on this system include up to 2x 150W single-width GPUs, or a single 250W GPU. Network communications are handles by 4x integrated ports, an OCP mezzanine card slot or by installing a PCIe NIC on one of the 2x Gen 4.0 PCIe x16 slots. There are options for the 2x integrated slots, which include wither 10GbE SFP or 25GbE SFP. The system is powered by either single or dual redundant PSUs of various wattages, depending on your configuration.
Dell’s PowerEdge XR4000 chassis are edge appliances that support a number of diverse applications including use as a vSAN or VM, point-of-sale appliance, for data compression, plus virtual desktop integration (VDI), machine vision and video surveillance. These are rugged enclosures with a short chassis length that can operate in a wide temperature range. With the XR4000R chassis, it can be rack mounted in a standard enclosure. The other option, the Dell PowerEdge XR4000z has a narrow width and can be stacked like Legos or bolted to the wall or ceiling.
A dedicated RJ45 management port provides remote access to the system through the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9.0 or iDRAC9. For more robust management options, there’s Dell OpenManage software utility, providing a suite of options to manage a small network, which can also be upgraded to Enterprise.
