The Gigabyte G291-280 GPU server offers the performance for a number of applications including enterprise IT database, cloud and storage to the demanding high-performance computing workloads. This is an Nvidia validated GPU platform that is also Nvidia Graphics Cloud (NGC) ready. NGC ready means this system can be used with NGC containers to quickly and easily deploy GPU-accelerated applications. Dual 2200W 80 PLUS Platinum redundant hot-swap PSUs power the system.

Dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the Platinum, Gold and Silver tiers can be installed with platinum processors delivering up to 28 physical cores. Processors are limited to a thermal design point of 205W, which basically included the entire line up. Each CPU supports 6x memory channels.
With 6x memory channels and 12 memory module slots per processor, the system will support a maximum of 2x modules per channel for up to 24 active slots in a dual processor configuration. Load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules support memory modules with the highest gigabyte count at 128GB for up to 3TB of memory at capacity. Registered (RDIMM) memory modules will support module capacities of up to 64GB for up to 1.5TB of memory with all slots at capacity. This system can also be loaded with up to 6x datacentric persistent memory modules (DCPMM), or Intel Optane, for greater memory and storage resiliency, but only with 2nd generation CPUs.
In addition to the 8x 2.5-inch drive bays lining the front of the chassis, there are 2x internal storage bays for 7mm SSD drives located to ether side of the front drive cage. Drive formats supported include SATA3 and SAS3 drive types, however, SAS drives are only supported using a discrete SAS HD/RAID controller operating at 12Gb/s data transfer speeds. SATA drives offer transfer speeds of up to 6Gb/s. Two SATA disk on module (DOM) slots offer additional internal storage to support the OS. Virtual RAID on CPU or vROC is also supported offering limited RAID for SATA and NVMe SSD drive formats and is enabled by Intel’s Xeon Scalable processors with a feature called the Intel Volume Management Device (VMD).
Two double-width GPU accelerators are supported in 4x separate GPU cages to either side of the motherboard for support of 8x GPUs total using a PCIe 3.0 x16 bus. Two more PCIe 3.0 slots at the back of the chassis provide PCIe 3.0 x16 slots for either two more high-performance I/O cards, or for a SAS HD/RAID controller in one of the slots. A dedicated slot for an open compute project (OCP) card allows for additional I/O options without sacrificing the limited PCIe slots. Supported GPUs or computing accelerators include the AMD instinct MI100, and Nvidia A100, V100S, and Quadro card family.
A dedicated RJ45 GbE LAN port on the back of the system accesses the integrates AST2500 remote management controller on the G291-280 server. Gigabyte also provides management software free of charge including the Gigabyte Management Console for single system deployments or the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) applications. Both offer inventory of assets, health status monitoring and can be configured to send alerts. The system is also Redfish and IPMI 2.0 compatible for interacting with other third-party manufacturers.
