The 2S, 4U Supermicro SuperServer 4029GP-TRT3 is part of the SuperServer family of 4U GPU servers. This server supports up to 6TB of memory and up to 9x Nvidia GPUs. It’s designed for 3D rendering, artificial intelligence, scientific learning, online transaction processing, and other demanding applications. The 24x front-facing drive bays support 2.5-inch drives, which accommodate SAS, SATA, and NVMe drives.
Designed for the most computationally-intensive applications, the SuperServer 4029GP-TRT3 is capable of providing support for up to 24x 2.5-inch hard drives. Highly adaptable, this system is ideal for changing business or project demands. There are three other chassis configurations in this family, but the only difference between the models is the installed daughterboard and the number of GPUs it supports. The following systems are in the Supermicro SuperServer family:
Supermicro SuperServer 4029GP-TRT
Supermicro SuperServer 4029GP-TRT2
Supermicro SuperServer 4029GP-TVRT
Both Gen 1 or Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported up to 28 cores and 205W. Each Scalable processor supports six memory channels divided over 12 memory module slots. It’s important to note that second generation Intel Xeon processors reach the top memory speed of 2933MT/s, while first generation CPUs will support memory speeds of up to 2666MT/s.
There are two processors with 12 memory module slots assigned per processor, for a total of 24 active memory module slots. Only Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors support the top memory speed of 2933MHz. However, memory speed is dependent on both the processor, memory configuration, and memory module supported speeds. 3DS Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), and Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM) are supported on this system. Although, Intel Optane memory modules are only supported using 2nd generation Scalable CPUs.
SAS, SATA, and NVMe storage devices can be installed on the Supermicro 4029GP-TRT3 server. These drives are hot-swappable and can be removed or replaced without powering down the chassis. 8x SATA and 2x NVMe drives are supported natively with ports right on the motherboard. A discrete HD/RAID controller is required to support all 24x front-facing drives and for SAS drive deployments. A single slot on the motherboard supports 1x M.2 NVMe storage device for hosting the OS. A microSD card slot on the motherboard can be used to support a hypervisor.
Up to 11x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots and a single PCIe 3.0 x8 slot with a x16 length are integrated with the daughterboard. Nine of those slots can be used to support up to 9x double-width graphics cards or computational accelerators from Nvidia, including the Tesla V100 and the T4 (70W). The other slots can be used to support HD/RAID controllers for SAS and SATA drives, M.2 PCIe cards, plus network controllers supporting greater data bandwidth. A slot on the motherboard underneath the daughterboard supports a single M.2 NVMe storage device.
Intel Node Manager and Watchdog are integrated with the Intel processor. This SuperServer can also be managed using the Supermicro SuperDoctor5 (SD5). This tracks your hardware’s health status and can send out alerts with an easy to use graphical interface. Supermicro’s Intelligent Platform Management Interface, or IPMI, connects to the integrated ASPEED AST 2500 controller for at chassis and remote management of the system.
The Supermicro GPU server lineup includes 1U, 2U, 4U and larger chassis configurations. The Supermicro SuperServer 4029GP-TRT3 delivers impressive performance with help from dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, up to 6TB of memory, and up to 9x Nvidia Tesla GPUs. This server is a clear choice for high-performance computing.
