The Tyan Thunder SX GT86CB5630 B5630G86CV12 Server is housed in a 1U chassis and features a single Intel Xeon Scalable processor. Described as a system for high-density storage for distributed databases, there are a total of 14x internal drive bays. Depending on the chosen memory DIMM type, the 12x DIMM slots have a maximum capacity of 1.5TB.
Tyan’s Thunder SX GT86CB5630 B5630G86CV12 server delivers high density storage with 12 large form factor internal drive bays in front, plus two small form factor SSD bays for OS installation. In addition to compatibility with both 1st and 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, there are 12 DIMM slots using the 6 channels provided by the CPU.

A single 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor can be installed, with a maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) wattage of 165W. The Xeon Scalable processors are available in several different core counts depending on the requirements for your specific workload and application. This system will support from 8 cores from the Bronze level, to 26 cores with a Platinum processor. Powering the system is a single 80-plus 500W rated power supply unit. Redundancy is not supported.
The Tyan GT86CB5630 B5630G86CV12 Server supports 12x internal drive bays for both 3.5- and 2.5-inch drives. For faster boot up times, an optional small form factor drive cage can be installed behind the PSU to support the operating system. The optional carrier card can also support up to 4x NVMe M.2 cards for even faster read and write and boot up times. VROC is supported for RAID functionality of SSDs. For support of SAS drives at 12Gb/s you will need a discrete RAID controller.
12 DIMM slots on the Tyan B5630G86CV12 server are supported by 6 memory channels. DIMM speeds depend on the chosen DIMM type. DDR4 Registered DIMMs, Registered DIMM 3DS, Load Reduced DIMMs, Load Reduced DIMM 3DS are supported offering speeds of either 2933MHz or 2666MHz, respectively. The DDR4 JEDEC NVDIMM speed only has the option for 2666MHz speed but does require a battery.
Although there is only one PCIe slot on the system, a low-profile expansion card can be installed for added capabilities. A single 1 GbE port is located on the back of the system dedicated to the Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0, or IPMI 2.0. There are two USB 3.0 ports found on the rear of this system, plus a single USB 3.0 Type-A port. A dedicated x16 connector for an OCP v2.0 LAN module provides enhanced I/O speeds of up to 10Gb/s. There are also two 1GbE ports on the back of the system.
The ASPEED 2500 onboard chipset handles system management and monitoring using the integrated platform management interface, (IPMI v2.0) port. Support for 3rd-party hardware is provided by this chipset and the system is API Redfish compatible.
