The 2U Tyan Thunder SX TN70EB7106 B7106T70EV8E4HR server delivers two-socket performance with Intel Xeon Scalable processors plus up to 1TB of memory. This particular chassis configuration supports up to 12 storage devices up front, including up to four NVMe drives for better performance and resiliency.
There are a few different configurations based on the TN70EB7106 barebones system, including the Tyan Thunder SX TN70EB7106 B7106T70EV8E4HR server featured here. This particular chassis is differentiated from the Thunder SX TN70EB7106 B7106T70EV8E4HR server in that it supports up to four NVMe drives up front with the remaining bays outfitted with SAS or SATA drives. This chassis is highly adaptable for standard business applications and for use in a software-defined network.
B7106T70EV12HR(12) 3.5"/2.5" SATA 6G Bays
You can install one or two of Intel’s Xeon Scalable processors with a thermal design power wattage (TDP) of up to 205W. That includes the entire Scalable family of processors. Each processor supports 48 PCIe lanes and six memory channels at memory speeds of up to 2666MHz. Power is provided by dual 770W, 1 + 1 redundant, PSUs.
All chassis configurations have 12 up front hot-swap 3.5-inch storage bays that can support either SAS or SATA HDDs or SSDs. The Tyan TN70EB7106 B7106T70EV8E4HR server also supports up to four NVMe drives in four of the front drive bays. A specific slot on the motherboard is used to support a modular storage mezzanine card with two OCulink x8 connectors to support up to four NVMe drives. A drive cage on the back of the system supports one or two hot-swap 2.5-inch HDD or SSD storage devices. There’s also a single x4 PCIe slot on the motherboard for a single M.2 NVMe drive. Additional M.2 storage can be installed using the PCIe 3.0 slots. RAID is provided onboard using Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (RSTe) with Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC). The VROC module plugs into the motherboard and there are two VROC keys to choose from. Both offer RAID configurations of 0, 1, and 10 with the Premium module providing RAID 5 too. Optional MegaRAID controllers offer even more RAID configuration options and can be installed in one of the risers.
To either side of the processors are two banks of four memory module slots, for eight per processor and 16 total active slots with two processors. Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), and 3DS LRDIMM DDR4 memory modules are supported with LRDIMMs providing the highest capacity at up to 1TB.
Depending on your choice of riser options (M7106-L24-3F, M7106-R24-3F Riser), the system will support four or Six PCIe 3.0 slots with dual processors installed. There are also dedicated slots for supporting an OCP LAN card with dual ports for superfast network connection speeds. The system comes with two GbE LAN ports.
An integrated RJ-45 port on the back of the Tyan B7106T70EV8E4HR server provides access to the integrated AST2500 iKVM feature for local and remote management of the system through the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0 baseboard management controller.
