The Gigabyte G481-HA1 GPU server can be outfitted with up to 10x GPU accelerators and configured to support dual or single root configurations. It offers dual first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors in a 4U chassis and hybrid storage up front with 12x 3.5-inch drive bays plus 10x 2.5-inch drive bays.
Designed to support AI, AI training, AI inference and for use in visual computing and high-performance computing applications, the Gigabyte G481-HA1 GPU server can support up to 10x double-slot GPUs from AMD or Nvidia. This chassis supports a hybrid storage structure with 12x 3.5-inch storage bays in the lower half of the chassis and an additional 10x 2.5-inch drive bays in the upper half of the unit. With dual processors, the system will support up to 3TB of memory.
One or two 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported from the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum families. This includes processors with up to 28 physical cores and 56 virtual threads with a thermal design point of up to 205W. However, if only a single processor is installed some PCIe and memory functions will be unavailable.
Each of the Intel CPUs has 6x memory channels and 12x memory module slots for up to 24x active memory module slots with both processors installed. Registered (RDIMM) memory modules will provide up to 1.5TB of memory using 64GB memory modules in all slots, while load-reduced memory modules will support up to 3TB of memory using 128GB modules in all slots. Data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM), AKA Intel Optane, are also supported up to 125GB modules in 12x slots, but must be paired with RDIMM memory modules. DCPMMs are only supported with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
This system supports hybrid storage up front with 12x 3.5-inch storage bays in the front lower portion of the chassis that are compatible with SATA and SAS SSDs or HDDs. 10x more 2.5-inch drive bays are located above the bays below and feature 8x bays with amber release tabs that are compatible with NVMe or SAS, SATA storage devices. Two other drive bays have blue drive release tabs and support SAS or SATA drives only. Both SAS and SATA drives are supported natively by a SAS3008 Broadcom storage adapter. For NVMe drives Intel’s virtual RAID on CPU, or vROC, provides limited RAID functionality of 0 and 1 for Intel SSDs only. A vROC key is included with the purchase.
With the ability to support up to 10x double-slot GPUs, the Gigabyte G481-HA1 GPU server has 10 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, plus 2x more low-profile card slots to support other options. Additionally, a pre-installed Broadcom SAS3008 storage adapter provides support for SAS storage devices and more control over storage in general with more RAID options. Two 10Gb/s BASE-T LAN ports on the back of the system provide integrated network connections and are located beside the integrated RJ45 management LAN port. GPU options include the Nvidia Tesla V100 and P100 cards.
The integrated management port located just below the PSUs provide access to the ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMC). Gigabyte also provides a number of free software applications to manage the system. The Gigabyte Management Console uses a graphical, browser-based interface compatible with Redfish and other 3rd party applications. The Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) software application provides multi-server remote management and is also compatible with either integrated platform management interface (IPMI) 2.0 and Redfish accessing the server node BMC in each chassis.
Designed for high-performance computing, the Gigabyte G481-HA1 GPU server has the qualifications to power through a number of workloads including, AI, AI inference, AI training, plus simulation and modeling. With up to 10x GPUs, this system can be used for both single and dual root applications to maximize performance depending on deployment scale. With dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the system can support up to 3TB in 24x DIMM slots—it’s also compatible with DCPMMs for increased data resiliency. Generous storage is provided with up to 22x hybrid drive bays.
