Two intel Xeon Scalable processors with a Thermal Design Point (TDP) of up to 205W can be installed in the Tyan Thunder HX FA77B7119 B7119F77V14HR-2T-N server. A select group of CPUs from the Silver, Gold and Platinum categories offer core counts of 8, 10, 12, 16, and 28. Each processor supports 6 memory channels. Additional computation is provided by either 10 double-width GPUs or up to 20 single-width GPUs. Powering the system are 4 x 1600W PSUs with 3+1 redundancy and keeping it all cool is a bank of six large fans offering 5+1 redundancy.
You can install up to 14 x 2.5-inch hot swap SAS or SATA storage devices are installed vertically at the front of the Tyan FA77-B7119 B7119F77V14HR-2T-N server with the cover removed. Another configuration supports up to 10 x SAS or SATA 2.5-inch HDD or SSD drives with up to 4 x NVMe devices. The HDD backplane supports either SAS and SATA drives or one that supports SAS, SATA, and NVMe. The controller is integrated with the system board and supports SATA and eSATA. To implement 4 x NVMe storage devices requires two SFF-8612 OCuLink PCIe x8 cards with two ports each. There are thermal restrictions on how many GPUs/storage devices can be installed and depends on which supported GPUs you install.
Memory is impressive on this system with 24 DDR4 memory slots shared between two processors. Two memory modules are supported in each of the six memory channels administered by each CPU for a total of up to 12 memory modules per processor. Registered (RDIMM), Load Reduced (LRDIMM and 3DS LRDIMM modules running at speeds of up to 2666MHz are supported. Although, to reach those memory speeds depends on the processor, memory modules, and memory configuration, with the system defaulting to the slowest performer. Using registered (RDIMM) memory modules will support up to 768GB, with Load Reduced (LRDIMM)memory modules, double that value to 1.5TB, and lastly using either 3DS RDIMMS or LRDIMMs to support incredible performance at up to 3TB!
The PCIe slots are supported on a separate circuit board that plugs into the main motherboard with an I/O bridge bracket. In total, there are 11 full height PCIe Gen3 slots and one PCIe Gen3 x16 PCIe slot for the pre-installed Tyan Mezzanine card, the Tyan M2217-L16-IO. Another 10 PCIe Gen3 x8 slots, or mux’d slots (mulitplexed), are located between the x16 slots and share the PCIe lanes, so Tyan FA77B7119 B7119F77V14HR-2T-N server will also support up to 21 x8 PCIe slots which can be used to support up to 20 single-width Nvidia P4 GPUs. The 10 x16 PCIe slots are for loading up to 10 full height, double-width Nvidia Tesla GPUs like the V100 or P100. The Mezzanine card will support a single M2217-L16-IO OCP HD/RAID SAS Controller with two x4 mini-SAS connectors and up to 12Gb/s per port. Another single x16 PCIe Gen3 slot located right in the middle of the PCIe rows can support additional IO with the intel X540-AT2 LAN controller.
The onboard Aspeed AST2500 chipset provides built-in system monitoring for the CPUs, memory, chipset, power supply, and LAN activity using the LEDs on the integrated control panel on the front of the system. A separate group of LEDs on the lower right of the front panel show storage device activity. An Aspeed AST2500 also provides server management with iKVM features through the IPMI 2.0 compliant base board management controller, or BMC. A dedicated ethernet port on the back of the Tyan FA77-B7119 B7119F77V14HR-2T-N server provides access to the system for out-of-band management via Microsoft Windows Emergency Management Services (EMS).
The Tyan Thunder HX FA77B7119 B7119F77V14HR-2T-N Server is an excellent choice for Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA), Artificial intelligence (AI), and Deep Neural Network (DNN) workloads, which require significant computation of massive amounts of data. This GPU-enhanced server is an optimal fit for data center applications because it offers higher efficiency, performance, and occupies less space than relying on servers with one or two processors running general-purpose workloads.
