Offering powerful computation for Edge applications, the 1U Gigabyte E152-ZE0 edge server features a single AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 series processor with up to 64 cores and room for a single double-wide GPU. It supports up to 1TB of memory and two storage bays in front that can be outfitted with either SATA or NVMe storage devices. Storage can also be augmented by M.2 devices for superfast data transfers using a PCIe Gen 4 bus.
As an Edge server, the Gigabyte E152-ZE0 is designed for situations where it takes too much time to upload to the data center and to quickly act on the processed information. Applications include real-time monitoring, live UHD video streaming, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and autonomous vehicles. This system has a short depth under 500mm for small areas, plus reduced latency for IoT applications and 5G networking in the cloud. These types of servers are generally deployed in remote inaccessible locations, or in areas that have poor Internet coverage. The system is powered by a single, non-redundant, 800W PLUS Platinum PSU.
The single AMD EPYC series 7002 or 7003 processor features a system on a chip (SoC) architecture and can support up to 64 physical cores and 128 virtual threads with a thermal design point (TDP) of 205W and a cTDP up to 280W. AMD EPYC 7002 series processors are also supported, but 7003 series processors offer a 25% greater speed and more L3 cache. Both feature 8x memory channels for high memory density.
With 8x memory channels to work with, the single AMD EPYC processor can support up to 1TB of memory in 8x DDR4 memory module slots. Standard registered (RDIMM) and load reduced (LRDIMM) will support up to 1TB of memory. Using 3DS RDIMMs or LRDIMM memory modules will provide up to twice that memory at 2TB using a memory module size of 256GB. Memory speeds will range up to 3200MHz depending on the processor and memory modules used.
There are 2x storage bays on the front of the Gigabyte E152-ZE0 edge server. The bays can be outfitted with either 2x SATA drives or 2x gen4 NVMe U.2 hot swap storage devices. Two x4 PCIe 4.0 slots on the system board can be outfitted with M.2 drives either to support the OS in mirror mode or for additional super-fast storage.
Two full-height, full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slots at the back of the chassis can be outfitted with 1x double-slot GPU, or 2x single-slot GPUs. The 2x integrated 1Gb Ethernet ports and the dedicated management LAN port are located on the front of the chassis. Two more PCIe Gen 4.0 low-profile slots, also located on the front of the chassis, can be used to accommodate optional high-performance I/O cards and supported Network Communications Services Interface (NCSI) functions or a host bus adapter.
With an integrated Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC) this system can be accessed at-chassis and remotely through a standard browser interface. In addition to a dual ROM architecture where the system will boot from a secondary BIOS, this system also comes with two free-of-charge proprietary management applications, Gigabyte Management Console and Gigabyte Server Management (GSM). The Gigabyte Management Console provides for management of a single server or cluster of servers, while the GSM software suite can manage clusters of servers simultaneously over the Internet.
There is no need to make any sacrifices for applications used at the Edge of civilization. The Gigabyte E152-ZE0 edge server delivers powerful performance for AI, AI inference, real time monitoring, and IoT devices. It offers a short depth chassis for small spaces and has most of the ports on the front for easy access. A single AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 series processor with support from optional GPUs can support the computation, memory, and storage for a number of high-performance applications.
