The Gigabyte E162-220 edge server can be outfitted with a single 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor from the Platinum, Gold or Silver categories. This system offers SATA/NVMe U.2 drives up front and up to 3x M.2 drives for super-fast storage. A single double-wide GPU can also be installed for enhanced compute performance.
Offering a small footprint with a short chassis length of 500mm, the Gigabyte E162-220 edge server is designed to support rapid processing at the Edge, where the system might not have a good connection to the cloud or a data center. This platform is designed for AI, AI training and inference, plus real-time monitoring, live UHD video streaming IoT devices and autonomous vehicles. The single 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor can support up to 40 physical cores and 56 virtual threads, if choosing from the platinum category. It also offers up to 1TB of memory and fast storage options with NVMe U.2 and M.2 drive formats. Two redundant 80 PLUS Platinum PSUs that power the system are hot swappable.
With a thermal design point (TDP) limit of 270W, 3rd generation Platinum Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 40 cores are and u p to 60MB of cache are still supported. These 3rd generation CPUs also support PCIe 4.0 speeds and more PCIe lanes, plus more memory channels at 8x compared to the previous generation, which only supported a maximum of 6x memory channels.
With 8x memory channels to work with and support for faster memory speeds at up to 3200MHz, this system will support up to 4TB of memory using 3DS registered (RDIMM) or load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules in all 16 x module slots. Standard RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules are supported, but only using a maximum module capacity of 128GB in all slots for a total of 2TB of memory.
There are two 2.5-inch storage bays on the front of the E162-220 edge server that can support SATA, SAS or Gen4 NVMe hot swappable HDD or SSD drives. For SAS implementation, administrators will need a SAS controller card operating at 12Gb/s. This system is compatible with a virtual RAID on CPU (vROC) key standard, but only supports Intel SSDs. 2x PCIe gen4 slots from the CPU can be used to support 2x M.2 devices. Another single x4 PCIe Gen3 slot supported by the chipset will support a single M.2 drive, for a total of 3x M.2 drives.
Along with the 3x x4 slots on the system board there is also a full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion slot for support of a single double-slot GPU accelerator and 2x low-profile PCIe Gen4 x16 slots that can be used to support high-performance I/O controllers. GPUs supported on this system include Nvidia, AMD, XILINX, and Qualcomm. A dedicated management LAN port on the front of the system provides access to the baseboard management controller or BMC. An optional open compute project (OCP) card plugs into the front of the system for more network ports and connection speed options.
The dedicated management port on the front of the system provides access to the baseboard management controller (BMC) through the Aspeed AST2600 for at-chassis and remote management of the system. Gigabyte also offers two proprietary software suites for management of the system including, the Gigabyte Management Console for single server deployments or the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) application for several servers or clusters of servers.
Offering a small footprint chassis with support for a single Intel Xeon Scalable processor, the Gigabyte E162-220 edge server is ideal for edge applications including AI, AI training, IoT, and real-time monitoring. It supports NVMe drive formats, plus M.2 for reliable and fast data transfers.
